Well it doesn’t appear they are going to spend too much money on a lefty pen arm. Not sure they cost of this signing, but can’t be much.

Not exactly what i had in mind after the Tucker trade . There are things to like there that point to better results , but thought they would aim higher .

Telling you, we won't see any real good signing or addition to the team outside of hopefully Sasaki, who won't cost much if he chooses the Cubs.

Hoyer going to add minor league signings and 1 year deals to guys that will mostly be for depth off the bench and Bullpen.

The roster as is, is pretty much set for ST

Theilbar a good sign for the pen, he had a bad 2024 but overall he's been decent.

Meh. He's okay, if you can bounce him back some. At age 37, there's no guarantee that will occur, however. Feels like a pretty low-ceiling signing and without a ton of upside. Not entirely hating on it, but with the options available, this one isn't much of a needle mover. Hopefully they bring in a far stronger option in the pen in a bit as well.

We’ll this move should give him enough money to go after whatever else he wants, regardless of costs. Yates for $15M and a trade for Lopez and they should still be fine.

You have been saying the same thing since before the Tucker trade. We got it. You don’t think they will do anything. I guess Tucker messed up your off season prediction.

Why does everything have to be guys they can "fix"? why is it almost never guys who are just good?

Hopefully the next move is for a guy who is already good and doesn’t need to be fixed. This move is not inspiring at all.

Jedd has to have one of the worst cases of "smartest man in the room" I've ever seen. He seems to genuinely prefer trying to prove he's smarter than everyone with reclamation projects rather than just take the talent that's there.

It's fine. He's posted good numbers for the most part the past 5 seasons. Even this year his peripherals were better than his ERA. And we are thin at LHR. That said I'm surprised it's a guaranteed contract. Guess that means he's "the" lefty to start the season unless Little or Zaztryszy wildly outpitch him in ST.

We'll see what the money is. I can't imagine it's anything that's going to stop them from adding another starting pitcher and a backend bullpen piece. Hes prolly a fine mid relief lefty. 3.80 xFIP 10.44 K/9 in the 2nd half last year. If they're gonna go all reclamation pickups again I'll be pissed but it's Dec 31st.

I agree with all of this. The move on its own is not great, but not terrible. If, because of this cheaper signing, he spends more elsewheee than I am fine with the move. As you said, only December 31st.

Never said they wouldn't add anyone,  I did say they wouldn't add a "big bat" unless they traded someone like Bellinger, Suzuki,  or Happ.  So no getting Tucker didn't mess up my prediction.

I also said they should trade Paredes and they did.

You all need to stop thinking like we have an owner and POBO/GM that looking to add whatever it takes to compete and win every year despite what they tell us, and start actually thinking like Hoyer and how he goes about adding players under Rickett.

Look at the 17 position players on the current 40 man roster, Swanson and Tucker are the only FA on there that cost some money. Everyone else came cheap or homegrown.

That infield depth makes me wanna puke..lol

Because the good guys want years and some money, the fix type will take a low cost, 1-2 year deal to try and get their value up for a better payday or just hanging on to continue getting a paycheck.

Blueprint for an 83 win team.

I dunno in the year 2024 I'd prefer the team actually put some thought into their signings rather than just sort a leaderboard by ERA and make their decisions that way.

If only they had 40ish million left to spend while staying under the cap

Can’t wait for the pen to come around in mid-July and us lamenting all the games we would have won if Jed better addressed the pen in the offseason

With half the guys in the pen that didn't start the season on the OD roster 😅

A Hoyer move if they don't get Sasaki would be to offer Verlander or Scherzer a 1 year 25 mil deal (which would eat up money) and then hope to flip them at the deadline while eating some of the money owed.

Wouldn’t that be a big signing? I mean $20M+ for a guy? Honestly if the Cubs felt either could still pitch I don’t disagree that they would consider this. Not sure of what the cost would be. But if they are going to make any real attempt at Tucker next year they need to not have that much payroll in 26’ So a one year deal for a pitcher does make sense. And if they did sign one of them and he did well there would be no reason to flip him. The Cubs will be winning the division. And if he sucks, no one will want him on a flip.
