Not really. You have to remember you are talking about the Cleveland Guardians. You can pretty much eliminate everyone but expensive veterans and mediocre players with a replacement coming up from the minors. At one point the Cubs were rumored to be discussing Josh Naylor but that ship has sailed, he doesnt have enough versatility to fit on the roster.

Sam Hentges is the best I could imagine. 28 year old reliever in arb 1 that was still being sent to the minors last season. Now he is out of options, but his metrics are pretty solid. So I could see the Cubs take a chance on him, but at the same time they've probably had all these discussions with the Guardians in the past when they traded for Morgan.

Absolutely sucks knowing the most exciting pitcher available for trade wont be available to the Cubs because of division, but damn I would love to have Jared Jones. That's true #1 upside.

I just can't imagine Jones is actually available for less than a beyond the pale deal.  Probably a timeshare-esque bait and switch to get interested teams talking and try to sell them on Keller.

For Caba and Emaarion Boyd. Caba is a 19 year old defensive/speed SS that started cracking top 100 lists last season. No power, but might have a decent hit tool. Boyd is a 21 year old speed OFer in A+ with little to no power. Probably around a top 20ish prospect in the Phillies org.

Does that open up a spot for them to maybe trade Cristopher Sanchez? He might be someone to consider. Or even Ranger Suarez for a year. I know that would be another lefty so not sure about either.

They only have a 4 man rotation, prior to this deal. They need a bunch more pitchers to consider trading anyone from their rotation.

I'd imagine this will be like last night's Guardians moves and we see a Suarez flip in short order.  They don't *have* to, but with how how tight money was for them this winter reportedly I would be a bit surprised if this was a luxury move to give them 6 fun starters.

Who is their current 5th fun starter to make this their 6th? Are you counting Walker? They've already said at best hes going to compete for a spot in ST.

Most indications I've seen are that they want Andrew Painter to have that job.   I expected something more fungible as his innings handcuff.

There is nothing out of Cubs camp suggesting they are trading Suzuki. Even in Rosenthals piece he mentions this. The name only comes up because of the DH rumor and that Suzuki would potentially waive his NTC, but that doesn't matter if the Cubs aren't trading him.

I don't see how that makes any sense. It mostly seems like Rosenthal is reporting a list of guys the Dodgers could be interested in and since Suzuki was available at one point he's being thrown in. I dont really see the fit. If the Cubs got blown away with some major league pitching pieces then maybe they'd consider it and then go spend on a dh option but it just seems unlikely.  One of the rumors said the Cubs would eat half the money and get someone like Bobby Witt so I lean mostly towards nonsense speculation.

Also a phillies supporter. Caba is a big time prospect with a high ceiling who is very far away. It's a nice get for the Marlins but as we've seen with Christian Hernandez,  anything can happen. Boyd was one of my favorite prospects in their system, in part because I've seen him play a couple times. Nice athletic guy who probably ends up a 4th OF. 

Don't love the Phillies giving up that much for someone who isn't a big need. They do love Ranger and Sanchez but this makes you wonder if they trade one for another OF. Kepler-Marsh-Castellanos isn't a terrible OF but it's also not a great one for a major contender.

I'd be very surprised if Seiya gets traded this offseason. Though I do feel like if we manage re-sign Tucker (I don't love those odds), he'll get traded next winter.

The Seiya stuff overall is kind of interesting. Like when everyone involved was talking about how great Imanaga's transition went in all phases this past year, I felt like there was always a subtext of comparing it to Suzuki's transition of being "eh, fine I guess." I don't know, I hope the trade rumors and DHing don't make things too weird because I'm a big fan of his game, and he's obviously a very important player for this team.

Jed doesn't usually tip his hand. I personally, don't think it would happen since seiya is so reasonably priced into the dh role. But, I dislike all the published reports about moving him and this idea might disrupt the Sasaki/Wolfe/Jed good will.

I do worry about him being trading causing some issues with the goodwill with Sasaki. I completely agree with you here. That is one of the reasons I don’t want to see him traded. Plus he is a very good hitter. Hopefully they can figure something out to get him some time in the outfield. Maybe a couple times a week. Give Happ a day at DH, same with Tucker. Maybe when Busch is out Tucker plays first and Suzuki is in the outfield. I know people focus on his bad drops, and rightfully so. But he isn’t unplayable in the outfield. He just isn’t as advertised and slightly below average. Cubs have played with a lot of worse outfielders over the years. One is being welcomed back this January.
