Re: T Scott

Jesse Rogers says it was down to the cubs and dodgers. Cubs never stood a chance basically 😂

Yep, but that really sucks. The number isn’t even something out of line. If the Cubs were serious about him they had to know that would be the number. Had LA blown it out of the water like 4/$88 or something like that I could understand it. But Cubs had to be in at that. Of course if the choice is play for a team who can win 110 games this year or a team in the 80’s I guess guys will choose the better team most times.

Yea, I’d be interested to hear what the Cubs offer was.. but great LA weather and a team that will be in the playoffs year in and out. It’s a no brainer imo.

So do the Cubs pivot to Yates? He would probably cost around $14M-$15M. Maybe a second year? But he would be a good back end guy. Or is it Finnegan, Jansen or Robertson? Has to be one of them, right???? Hope it is Yates.

The top 5 available now is..

Yates, Robertson, Farmer, Estevez, Jansen

Chafin and Raley could still be in the mix as cheaper options on 1 year deal.

Thoroughly enjoying that the Cubs are not going to flex their financial muscle and they're also not going to get all the extra picks and international cap space the "small" markets do. The worst of both worlds.

I forgot about Estevez. But I think Finnegan is available too. And he did close, unlike Farmer, who did not. Maybe those are the top 6?

It's particularly awful right now because the division is there for the taking.

Our chief rival is down and essentially out, so we're really only competing against a Brewers franchise that will never compete with the big boys financially.

Be who we are, (the big market team in the division, and use your financial advantage, and we'd be prohibitive favorites in the Central. But instead TR insists on evening the playing field with our competition. It's pathetic.

If we would have been the big fish, and signed Scott and also grabbed *Bergman, what would our predicted win total have been?

*Trade Nico now, in season, or let Shaw develop in AAA a little longer and trade Nico in November.

What financial muscle? PTR and his sibs are just trying to break even.

The value of Scott over the other FA closers is approximately 1 win.

Bregman's not really much better than Hoerner, so the improvement for the team would be whatever Hoerner brought back in trade.

This would be such a Cub move. They don't pony up for the elite rp, but they'll give a multi year deal to a guy who was mediocre 3 of the last 4 years rather than just sign Robertson to a 1 year deal.

My general reliever pref list from here

1. Kirby Yates - Very good but old

2. David Robertson - Very good but very old

3. Kyle Finnegan - Just okay but the pitch design guys see lots of potential

4. Kenley Jansen - Good but old

5. Carlos Estevez - Good but in line for a multi-year deal

6. Paul Sewald - Bad 2024, pitch models still love him though

Flip Yates and Robertson and I think that's more or less where I am and even the Yates/Robertson thing I could be talked out of it.

I think they sign Finnigan.  That is a Cub signing.  He will be cheaper than some of the other options.

It really is hilarious. Spending is literally the only advantage available to the Cubs and they have just chosen to opt out of it

With Yates signing with the Dodgers , my preference now is Robertson . With that said , Dodgers will probably sign him as well
