Every fan from every other team besides the one the Dodgers are playing should be rooting for the Dodgers. The owners and administrators do everything a fan could want to try to win.

Baseball continues to have the most random results of any playoffs. I imagine it makes it so hard to get excited about your team being in it until you get to the NLCS because their first 2 rounds are just so random. At least that’s how I’d feel if my team ever made it. It doesn’t matter how great your team is or how few holes you have, you can be out of it in the blink of an eye.

As a neutral, this makes the playoffs much more exciting.  But as lame as I know this sounds, I almost wish we went back to 8 team playoffs.  Division winners and 1 WC per league.  The results would still be random as hell but at least you can narrow down the randomness to only having the top 4 teams (more or less) participating in said randomness.

If baseball is comfortable with the 3 game first round, they should be fine making the divisional series 7 games. Basketball and hockey do four rounds of it and it works just fine. Cut a wild card team to bring it down to 2 per league, make them play one game the day before game 1 of the divisional series.

Where do the Phillies go from here?    Keep running it back and hope the playoff dice roll in their favor next year?

Really depends on ownership/payroll.  Their payroll heading into the winter is a bit north of where it was this year.  And all they're losing to FA is a couple relievers.  So if they are willing to push payroll up $20M or more from where it was this year they can run a pretty similar team out there next year.

If Dombrowski already pushed payroll to its (self imposed) limit, they have to make some tough choices.  Trade Schwarber or blow up the bullpen most likely?

They definitely don't need to do anything drastic like blow it up.  They've got a pretty decent amount of young talent, and Walker/Castellanos are their only contracts completely under water.

That’s all you really can do right?  The Dodgers won 100 games last year but since they went out in the NLDS they decided to sign a first ballot inner circle HOFer AND one of the highest regarded Japanese pitchers ever to come over not to mention crapload of other moves to shore up every possible hole that they could find and as a result they are still 1 bad game away from going out in the NLDS again.

Just need a ticket to the show and while it’s not a complete crapshoot, once you get there you just hope that the luck goes your way. The Phillies have a team that’s good enough to mostly run back and get another chance next year so I’m guessing that’s what they’ll do

In some aspects it's like the NCAA tournament match-ups, match-ups, just keep getting there until the match-up dominoes fall in your favor.

They need to make the 1st 2 rounds more games.  162 games and then 2 of 3 or 3 of 5 is just nonsensical.  If they need to take a week off the regular season or add more rest days during the season just do it.

Padres aren’t exactly penny pinchers. Aggressive front offices had a good showing.

Honestly I know its the Yankees and their not exactly my top choice to make the WS, but its been 15 years since they've been in it.  I don't hate the idea of them making it and seeing Judge, Soto, etc on the biggest stage.  I realize that not all will agree.

The Dodgers can horsefeathers themselves

Let's maybe wait until the Tigers, with their entire playoff roster making when Jameson Taillon does, gets eliminated before we start thinking the owners are going to learn a lesson of some sort here.

Yeah I don't know if this is getting old/old and soft or what, but like...Soto and Judge are a ton of fun. And as a fan of a big market team, give me the prestige that comes with the best teams of this current generation going at each other. This Guardians/Tigers series is fun, but it's fun in the way that like, I tune into the College World Series and pick a team based on some reliever (except in this example Jose Ramirez is also there).

The Dodgers have been doing this forever and I certainly strongly dislike a lot of their bit players (Edman, Muncy, Kopech, Treinen especially)....but Shohei/Mookie/Freeman is about as good as it gets. The Padres are universally great and I hope Darvish shoves tonight. But it's probably fine either way.

There's no reasonable amount of games that will make those series less random. If you want less random playoffs you need to let fewer teams in. That's it. No other solution will regularly produce the best teams at the end.
