Pick a neutral site and all the WC teams go there.  The bottom 2 play each other Tuesday, winner plays the top WC team Wednesday, winner of that game goes to the division series against the team with the best record.  It would be absolute madness and I'd love it.

If you want it to be absolute madness without really impacting the integrity of the playoffs, go ahead and expand to 6 Wild Card teams.  The bottom 4 play each other on Day 1.  The winners play the top 2 Wild Card teams on Day 2.  Winners of those games play each o ther on Day 3.  It could be pure chaos, but would be fun to watch.  Can a team run the table and win 3 straight games?  It's a tough road for any team to get out of the Wild Card round, but that's the way it should be.

Phillies - Mets should be more competitive than Phillies - Brewers would have been.  Despite the randomness of baseball, I just don't see how the Brewers would have had a chance with the likes of Meyers, Rea and Civale against the Phillies lineup.

Dodgers - Padres should be good as well, picking the Padres, they have a big edge in pitching.

I just have a visceral reaction to a division winner getting a one-game shot at advancing.  WC teams?  I have no problem with one-and-done.  Win your division if you want more.

Sidenote:  watching the Brewers habitually fail early in the playoffs makes me happy.

Pretty sure that’s a Red Sox forum. Soxtalk is a white Sox forum, talksox is Red Sox

edit: holy crap they have a marlins forum too?  They are talking over baseball forums.

Didn't they acquire White Sox Interactive? Or did I dream that?

If so they've put as many resources into the White Sox relative to other teams as Reinsdorf has

I felt the same way until I read some stories about Bob Uecker talking with players in the clubhouse after the game.  As annoying as the Brewers are, I have always loved listening to Uecker, and it would have been cool to hear him call an NLCS and/or World Series.  He has had more than his share of health problems and wasn't in the booth for the first 2 Wild Card games, so it is entirely possible that he may not be back next season.

I'm surprised many find the Brewers/their fans more annoying than the Mets/New Yorkers. I get that they're a division foe, but they've only been in the same division since '98.  maybe that's all/most of the lives of many posters here.  But they don't really bother me.  The Mets and their fans are awful, almost as bad as the Yankees.

I have to live and work alongside them every day so that's probably got something to do with it.  Things were much better when the Packers beat the Bears but it equaled out during baseball season.

Yes I'm bitter.

I loved the one-game format. We don't need to reward the WC teams with a series.

I love the brutality of a one game WC.  Who did not love Arrieta shoving Pittsburgh out of the playoffs after winning high 90 something games?

Sudden death OT in NFL needs to return. Loser point eliminated from the NHL.

At least in Detroit and KC's case, the benefits of getting to play one of the worst teams in history 13 times vs. only 6 for the other AL teams. Detroit went 10-3 vs. the Sox while KC went 12-1. They both beat out Seattle (6-1 vs. the Sox) by a game.

Yep that the difference with making the playoffs,  just didn't expect them to advance

I've said this before but Zach Wheeler is one of the best FA signings of all time.  They didn't like steal a guy coming off an injury or a down year.  They "overpaid" an all star caliber pitcher and then coached him up into a Cy Young caliber arm.

The Opener is definitely waning as a strategy and you wonder if this game killed it.

Detroit openered themselves into the playoffs. Based on how well it worked for them in the second half of the season, I don't think one bad game of it will kill it.

Rewind to the deadline when we were discussing Contreras trades with the Mets and how no one wanted to touch Mark Vientos. That would have sucked getting him.

Think there’s a better than average chance the Mets may be up 2 games headed to NY.

Came close with another 9th inning comeback
