Before Covid, U of I was talking about building a multi purpose ice arena in Champaign. With that they were going to start a D1 hockey program. Obviously I think all that fell through.  But what I find interesting is the state of Illinois produces the 4th or 5thmost NHLers of any state but does not have a D1 college program.   Really think if they could get an arena to play in, D1 hockey would do well there. Being in the B1G would really help

I have no skin in the B1G game but have certain schools that I tend to root for often for absolutely no reason and Minnesota has always been one of them.

There were dark days in terms of athletic supremacy when I was attending school there.......except for hockey and wrestling. Hell, at that point, TC's didn't have an NHL team. Mariucci was always packed, it was a blast

College hockey is such an under-appreciated sports experience. The fans are incredible. Seeing the Frozen Four live is on my sports bucket list.

Been there. Although I wasn’t not part of the riots in Dinkytown when we won, I did live there. I recall partying all night and into the next

Wasn't not part of the riots? So... you were then? 😄

There's a new video circulating of JT getting some work in on the ice. He's wearing his Blackhawks pants. 💔 If he can still keep up, he's the best bottom 6 center in the league. All Winnipeg needs is for him to be a face-off/PK specialist.

Minnesota Wild superstar Kirill Kaprizov turned down an eight-year, $128 million contract on Tuesday in a meeting with the team, according to a report on X by NHL insider Frank Seravalli.

That contract, which The Athletic had previously reported was the offer Minnesota would make, would have been the largest in NHL history both in terms of AAV ($16 million) and total dollars (surpassing Alex Ovechkin’s 13-year, $124 million deal signed in 2008).

Blue Jackets taking a flyer on Ivan Fedotov is an interesting, low risk move. Dude was nails in the KHL, but extremely "meh" in his NHL starts. We'll see if the CBJ can fix him. If not, they only risked a 6th round pick and Ivan can walk after this year

I know there aren't many, if any, lacrosse fans here, quite a few hockey players have lacrosse in their background.  So, I'll post this here, me, the old man, almost scored a beauty last night, came around the crease from X on the goalies' left.  Caught a pass on the run with my left hand and got off a quick shot equivalent to a hockey one-timer.  Only problem was the goalie may a really good save, of course, last night, my son scored twice, including a rip on the run in the five hole - punk.

There's at least one active hockey here, think he's goalie?  Please forgive me for not remembering your name.  Nevertheless, just curious has hockey began for you? There's a fellow I play lacrosse with in the summer who doesn't play in fall since hockey fires up for him.

Wild end to the Hawks game tonight. Dach with a clean hit that caused a scrum with about 3 minutes to go in the 3rd, no whistle, Oliver Moore kept playing and scored the go-ahead goal.

8x17 for Kaprizov

McDavid will get 20

Not a direct comparison because of position but this points to the direction the market may be going for Luke Hughes, a RFA that has been out of camp for devils

Hawks probably want Bedard for ~12 but he probably wants shorter term to make his upside enormous as a ~24/25 yo UFA

He is set to become a free agent at 31/32 now. He’ll get his bag in the next one when the cap is higher, but he’s taking all the risk and giving teams an excuse not to bid on him for his post peak years

Holy horsefeathers that’s awfully low.

like almost so low that it will not affect anybody else’s negotiations because it’s so far outside the realm of realistic

He’s giving Edmonton exactly two years to sell out for a cup.

In addition to the upcoming year he already signed for.

three years in his prime taking ~60% of his market value. He could have easily gotten $15m for two years and been exalted for giving a hometown discount and making it easier for Bowman to round out the roster
