Huge get for the Wild but I am 90% sure, he is not going to stay in Minnesota long term. This is clearly going to be a 1.5 year rental for the Wild. I applaud them for their aggressiveness.

Hughes' current contract expires after next season, giving the Wild a year and a half to work out an extension. If he reaches free agency, Davidson needs to be ready to open up the checkbook.

Why? He's going to NJ. Quinn to NJ is just about as much of a lock as Ohtani to the Dodgers.  Hawks can try, I guess.

Quinn to NJ is far from a lock. They would need to do some major cap crunching to accommodate him.

NJ couldn’t make it work today but by 2027 they will have greater flexibility. Much more so than cap space the bigger obstacle is the Wild can offer him immediate contention as a lock for this years playoffs, coming off a bottom dwelling team. And they can offer him the biggest contract under the old CBA rules through next September.

If he goes to the playoffs, wins a round or two, gets comfortable with his teammates AND gets an 8 year front loaded deal paying top dollar, NJ isn’t going to be that much of a draw to wait another year.

You're right, it's not a lock but to me, it's the most likely outcome. .The Devils will eventually clear the room to make a run at Hughes.

I think if the Wings would have gotten him in a trade, there was a decent chance he would have extended his contract. This has a very Kyle Tucker vibe to it for Minnesota. They gave a lot

NJ will need to find a way to unload Hamilton. They’ll still have 23.5 million tied up in just three defensemen when Quinn hits the open market, if he does.

It’ll be a one year deal with $9m cap hit that costs just 5.2 in cash. The devils will be able to easily unload that. Chicago got a potential all star #1 goalie and a #1 pick for jones

I still expect that someday I'll wake up and realize I was dreaming this.

Anyone want trade Columbus a goalie? Our #1 guy is totally and completely cooked.  He’s been pushed to #2 for last year’s third stringer, and has given up 15 goals in his last three starts (including 3 in 5 shots before being pulled in the first quarter)

One question--why Chicago and not the Canadiens?

I know little to nothing about hockey, but I could die supporting the Canadiens.

Could I interest you in a goalie who can chip in offensively?
