Well, it was fun while it lasted and I got to see a couple fun games in DC.  Should have traded Steele at the deadline (kidding).

This feels like a real white flag move sending Kyle out there again tonight.  Killian or Birdsell have to be better options at this point with someone else ready to piggyback if needed.  Hell, DFA Kyle and Mastro and bring them both up.

Kyle has to keep the ball in the yard. Skeens is wearing down a bit. The team has seen him recently, I like the Cubs in this game.

Sounds like that is more from the heart than the brain. But I like where your heart is. Hope you are right.

This was supposed to be Steele's start, but he was scratched due to elbow soreness.  The doctors are evaluating him today/tomorrow and we'll see what comes of it.  The Cubs have been really sensitive to elbow/forearm matters this season, so it may just be precautionary.

I'm guessing Kyle got the call because he was available and the Cubs would need medicals to come back before doing any sort of roster move.

Still, this sucks.

I think I would have rather seen a bullpen day. Start Pearson for a few innings then go to Smyly for maybe 3 innings. Figure out the rest depending on the score.

We really need old Hendricks tonite.

Maybe he can go one time through the line up. Then go to the one in the 4th. Don’t wait for him to explode. When he goes bad it happens quick. Then go with Pewrson for a couple and maybe Smyly for a couple.

Steele is likely to miss at least 1 more start depending on severity of injury,  if it's two, might as well let Hendricks pitch out his final season as a cub in Steele spot and shut Steele down for the year.

Bad feeling that Hendricks is making his last appearance tonight and going out with another whimper.

I've thought the same thing a few times this season, but he just keeps pitching.

Unfortunately, we've been getting mostly "old' Hendricks this season.  Maybe tonight we can see "young" Hendricks for 6 or so innings.

If this ends up being more than a one start deal (and how often do elbows, however mild, not require an IL trip and 3-4 missed turns?) I wonder if Kyle gets the subsequent starts.  Feels like if there's more time to prep plus Thursday's off day Birdsell should be the guy.

It's amazing luck. Cubs have played Pirates 13 games and will have faced skeens  in 4 of them. I fear the deck is stacked against us every which way we look

Bullpen day would've made sense if Craig wouldn't have burned thru so many relievers in a taillon work of art last night.

With Kyle starting it'll probably be a bullpen game anyways? But, crazy question, why not start an opener, then bring in kyle?

Why are you more pro birdsell over kilian?

The highs and lows of baseball can be so brutal.  From 6 game W streak to a brutal bullpen collapse loss and the Ace of the team injured.  Hope these guys hang in there and can still make it interesting down the stretch
