With Wicks looking solid, I have to believe Hendricks doesn't start another game as long as the Cubs are still fighting for a playoff spot.  Maybe he gets one last farewell start at the end of the season after they have been eliminated.

Nice work by Wicks. Tough 2nd, then three pretty clean innings.

Guessing he's done for the day, evnthough he's only at 69 pitches. That's the most he's pitched since the injury and the top of Nationls lineup begins the 6th. It's would also be the 3rd time through for Nationals.

I am not so sure Hendricks is done starting. I wouldn’t be shocked if he went Wednesday. I know they want to limit Imanaga’s innings and give him a little more rest. If Hendricks goes Wednesday that gives Imanaga 6 days between starts instead of the usual 4.

I could be wrong but it seems like whenever Imanaga gets the extra rest he doesn't pitch as well.

You probably are.😀. His last 4 starts he has pitched with 5 days rest. He pitched a shutout against the Orioles on 6 days rest. Whenever Counsil could give him that 5th day he gives it to him. Yes, one of his bad starts this year was with extra rest. But for the most part they try giving him more time.

Exactly. And maybe Counsil will try stealing one with Hendricks and a pen day. Pirates have Falter going. Plus, if you hold Imanaga until Friday you get him in both the Yankees and Dodger series.

Imagine if we just blunted the losing a bit earlier in the season.  A lot of winnable games were lost and just flipping a few would have changed the season entirely.

Even a game as simple as the Cubs blowing an 8-0 against the Padres. That puts the Cubs 2 closer to the Padres and gives them the tie breaker against them as well. Same issue last year with Dbacks. Win one of those against the Dbacks and the Cubs are in and Az out. Gomes just misses a homer at Wrigley and gets thrown out at second…. The ball off it Thompson that Dansby doesn’t catch…. Either goes the  ins way and they are in. I worry the same thing will happen this year.
