Sasaki, Burnes, Flaherty.

I'll believe Jeb is in on burnes just like he was with ohtani. Lol. Missed him by thisssss much.

He'll treat top 4 starting pitchers just like a few years ago with the top 4 ss

Sign me up! I'm on board! Now give me some horsefeathers names that Jeb should be in on? 3 minimum please lol.

Jack Flaherty, Nate Eovaldi, Robbie Ray

Nick Pivetta, Alex Cobb, Yusei Kikuchi are also all probably better but there's some heightened risk there.

I don't know about the last month or so, but I had read something that Roki had been pulled earlier from back to back starts with unidentified arm issues.

Yea and there's a chance he might not be posted. It was just three quick names. Fried's another option, but lower on the list. It's tough for us GM's on here to know who is truly going to be available or not this off-season. I would kick the tires on someone like Alcantara and see if the Marlins want to dump him after his TJ surgery. At least we'll know in the next 5 days what direction Jed decides to go.

That's fair if you don't have faith in Jed being able to upgrade - that doesn't mean there's not options/ways he could make it work.

The last 4 years have done zilch in faith building.

With all due respect, that's a horsefeathers list that screams 4th place finishes. For my money I'm keep jamo and rocking out last place like a superstar

I think all those guys are within the same level as Taillon, however. I thought that was the question.

I am not really in favor of dealing Jamo either, but if they did and got a solid prospect back I would be fine with someone like Pivetta, or  Eovaldi taking Jamo’s spot in the rotation at a comparable price or even spending a little more and getting Flaherty. my issue is I don’t trust the FO to replace Taillon with someone even as good as I just mentioned.

I'm not understanding the need  to flip jamo to gain another prospect? We've got prospects coming out of jebs butt. We've had like 10 or more starters hit the IL this season, let's keep jamo and add++.

Just once, I'd like Jeb to go into an offseason and spend like a large market. Instead of trying to catch lightning in a bottle.

This season turned out to be catching shitt in a bucket

I'd love to "Win the offseason" (Like the Rangers a couple years ago, and Dodgers last year) but Jed himself said that's never their goal. I expect more of the same until he proves otherwise.

I understand the idea. Add a prospect. Who knows when you can use them to upgrade the major league roster with a trade or by bringing that prospect up. The reason I would rather just hold on to Taillon is I don’t trust the FO to spend to add talent similar to or better than Taillon next year. I don’t agree that because the Cubs have prospects they don’t need more prospects. I just wish they would use the prospects they have in trades to improve the major league team.

I’m honestly surprised it’s not higher considering we tend to play a lot of close lower scoring games due to good SP, bad hitting and a bad pen.

Maybe a replacement for Canario who came up limping yesterday.  Can play CF also:

Is it me? Or does canario come up limping every other week? I'll be very satisfied if he's playing for someone else's AAA team next week

If Jed wants to keep a job beyond 2025, something is going to give. But even then, average play at C, 3B and 4 less blown saves and the Cubs are neck and neck with the Brewers this year.

This is true from a fans perspective.  Ricketts may feel a little different about how Jed is doing.

One of the main points to trading Taillon is to get out of his contract. How is his money not a detriment to his value?

I would rather trade Assad because like Taillon, he's hot. He's got 235 innings of pitching under his belt with a 3.09 ERA. He's pre-arbitration so the controlled years are cheap. If you wanted to make a more significant move to better this team, it's with a guy like him. He's just as replaceable as Taillon, but worth more due to the cheap years of control vs moderately expensive years.

You are spot on about Assad.  That said, if I was on the receiving end of the trade, I would be concerned with his FIP, WHIP, and his inability to go further than 5 innings.  I would trade Assad in a heart beat.  I think that he's a #4 or 5 guy.  And he may be best in pen, as he taxes the pen when he pitches.

He's waiting the market out.

You know, so that other teams make trades first so there are no buyers left

Jed should be setting the market.  Not reacting to the market.

He doesn't have the players to set the market. And he's strategy of waiting until he gets the value he wants has worked out reasonably well for the Cubs. Overall, he should be fired (he won't be), but he seems to do well in this part of the job.
