I'm curious why coming into the series Sunday was a TBA and then after the rainout they went with Assad.  I would think the rainout makes doing something creative on Sunday that much easier?  Was getting a better alignment for the Brewers series just more valuable than whatever else they had planned previously?  Is Assad dealing with a little something and Thursday he wasn'ta sure thing for Sunday?  Is the club starting to do some dumb Bill Belichick style "refuse to be transparent even when there's no advantage to be gleaned" style horsefeathers?

Question that I hope someone can answer. For all the out of network viewers if the Fox game in your area isn’t the Cubs game can you get the game through the mlb subscription? I am in Az. Fox is showing the Dodgers game here. Cubs will not be televising on Marquee. But Fox is carrying the game. So if I go to the Cubs/Cardinals game in mlb will I get the Fox broadcast?

Maybe it's centered on Shota?  They want to give him X days of extra rest per Y days, and now they can satisfy that without a bullpen game by moving him to Monday?

ESPN is showing undecided for Sunday and Assad for Monday. Did the cubs announce Assad? That is odd.

Best I can tell from looking at MLB.TV Help Center is that the game SHOULD be available in Arizona.  Here's a link to their page: MLB.TV Help Center

If you scroll to the second grid, it lists Regular Season Games (FOX) as "All OOM * games available (standard HTT** blackouts apply)". So I read that as the only game not available would be the AZ/Miami which overlaps in time.

That's a great question, i don;t know for certain.  It doesn't say who is carrying the game on my MLB.tv app on my TV, it says "no broadcast available" actually, for both today and tomorrow's game, I assume because of national coverage.  Geez I hope I get to watch them on mlb.tv  There's not usually multiple broadcasts (home vs away feeds) available when there's a national broadcast.

The Cubs pitching staff faded down the stretch last year, including some key pen injuries, and I remember Steele looking pretty gassed.  I'm all for giving the guys a bit extra rest at different times throughout the year, including position guys.

Seems the same reason with Horton's late ramp up.  Cubs seemed to have learned their lesson from last year.

If your local FOX isn't airing the game, you should be able to watch it on MLB.TV. They fixed that issue several years ago. I haven't tried it on the newest version of the app but I assume it's still the case.

I listen to the score with the app on my phone. However I can’t get the games when they are on. So no Pat and Eon for me.

That is strange. My mlb says Fox is the broadcast. It definitely doesn’t show “no broadcast available”. I do think, now, I will get the game.

That is bizarre. Wonder why they wanted to give Assad an extra day before the rain out and pitch him to start the Brewers series and now decided he can pitch on normal rest? Looks like Brewers series starts with TBD. Also if they are pushing Imanaga back to Wednesday. So Tuesday will be Steele. I assume Wicks gets one more rehab and then fits in the next time through the rotation. Really seems Counsel is trying to limit innings.

I was very much in this camp down the stretch last year, but now kinda wondering if ‘fading down the stretch’ is somewhat of a convenient excuse for poor performance or regression to the mean or whatever. Totally appreciate the gradual ramp up of pitcher innings, but curious if there’s actual documented proof of like, a September swoon phenomenon

Maybe they want Imanaga vs the Brewers, and also want a more rested pen for the series too.  Pitching Assad will save them Brown, Wesneski, Smyly potentially from multi-innings on Sunday.

Well Steele looked physically tired, career high in IP last year.  Other pen guys were just overpitched during the summer and got hurt.

Yeah no sorry, I’m just being weird and thinking about how like, during every poor Steele start last fall there was an opponent lineup that had a mini hot streak, who in theory should have been just as worn out. Like, I highly doubt there’s an increase in league wide ERA in September. Is it an actual thing or is it something that’s just easy to point to

I'm not talking about stats.  I'm talking about Steele looking physically gassed.

If you want stats we can point to him having 173 IP last year, which is a lot more than the 119 IP he had the year before, his previous career high.  We can also point too the fact that the most ER Steele gave up in a game last year was 6, and he did that only twice and both came in 2 of his 3 last starts of the year, one being Pittsburgh.  Not to mention Justin's tongue hanging out of his mouth.

Oh goodness, a game on Fox. Have to spend the next 3 hours being told stats from 97 years ago and how the two announcers got their starts as announcers… at length.
