Well that Xray last night was certainly a bust.

Ooof PCA has had a poor start in Iowa.  That said there's potential he's worked on some specific things that haven't led to Iowa results but will improve him long term.  He has been chasing at an astronomical rate though so any edges smoothed down are probably not coming from that side of the house.

The fact that the X-Rays missed it and a CT scan picked it up makes me wonder if its a very small fracture thus might be able to heal quicker?  Or am I just making things up to remain optimistic?

If he could have caught the damn ball on the previous play instead of losing it in the sun AGAIN, this never would have happened.

Ok, maybe easier said than done, but annoying nonetheless.

Cubs now have 16 fWAR from last year on the IL between Steele, Bellinger, Seiya, Merryweather and Hendricks.  If you want to cut out Hendricks, still looking at 13.1 fWAR

Or the ump gives Wicks the strike 3 call to Diaz the pitch before. Baseball things.

depth will show for a while. Put PCA at the bottom of the order. Tell him his job is to get on base by an means. Hopefully he listens.

PCA and Mervis will need to show they belong, it's their time to shine.

Also guys like Swanson and Happ will need to really step it up now..

Right now PCA, Mervis and Canario are automatic outs, don't know how they're going to score runs when potentially a third of the lineup can't hit.

Mervis is not an automatic out, and only one of PCA or Canario need to start, potentially zero if you feel like putting Wisdom out there.

I'll grant you PCA, but hopefully Mervis can hit and Canario should be decent against LHP.  Calling them automatic outs is a bit harsh.

Just when he was getting real hot too, didn’t even look like he hit the wall that hard.

Not at all.  Just a freak injury I guess.  He could probably run into the wall at that speed 10 times and be completely fine 9 times out of 10.

  • Wisdom/Canario/Mervis - hopefully between the three of these guys you can put together, like, a .773 OPS or so

Not pretty, but not dire.

Surprising.  He was interviewed last night and said he didn’t feel anything until later in the game, and that it was a dull pain.  I came away thinking it was a muscular strain or something like that.

Another reason to believe its a hairline fracture which would heal faster.

Reading online it would take 6-8 weeks for a hairline fracture to heal, so maybe we'd have everyone except Merryweather back by late June?  Of course it may take some time to get right again after being out so long so maybe we start rolling by mid-July?

Funny because the 2023 Cubs were 14-10 through their first 24 (2024 Cubs are 14-9 through first 23) then played an absolutely abysmal May after Bellinger got hurt for a month to spiral down the standings, only to recover by late June and start to roll in July.  Unfortunately the May swoon put us on a path where we missed the playoffs by 1 game.
