Cubs have the lead in the 8th inning or later, meaning that they have a whopping 75% chance of winning the game based on results this year

I cant believe Basil Hayden is as much as Maker’s Mark.

The Cubs have had some pretty crappy losses... but they've always followed them up with a win. They've had two 2-game losing streaks: to Texas to start the year and then San Diego/Seattle. That's somewhat promising.

But... that bullpen!🤬

Great win to salvage the day after the brutal loss earlier.. the upcoming Astros, Brewers, Mets series' will be crazy.  All really good teams so far except the Astros, who will probably get it together at some point

Funny thing about the gauntlet we thought we were playing, the Cubs have only faced one team all year that is currently over .500 and that is the 12-11 Dodgers.  Then after the Astros, we hit a part of the schedule that I thought would be a bit of a break from the gauntlet but the next 3 series will be the 3 toughest series of the year based on current record, the 12-10 Red Sox followed by the 12-8 Mets and then the 13-6 Brewers.

Now of course just because the Dodgers are 12-11 doesn’t mean that they aren’t significantly better than the Red Sox or Mets. Just thought it was funny how that all played out with the teams we played.

Yeah, one of those weird things where fans always talk about a pitcher going 6 innings. Not 5, not 7, but 6. If Shota pitches a complete game, I wouldn’t complain.

6 seems like the magic number nowadays for pitchers, 7 is like getting a complete game out of them..lol

This. There’s losing and then there’s painful losses that could have been avoided. Oh well, let’s get them tonight.

Late come from behind losses are the worst losses.

my stance is that bunting with Amaya is fine, hitting Canario is fine, doing both of those things seems like a waste of limited resources.

If you've got 1 out and the tying run on 3rd and a K guy on the mound i'd put in the guy who can put the ball in play, preferably in the air.  That's probably Bellinger there, who hit LHP well last year and killing them this year.

Amaya bunt is a whatever.  Seems like a GDP guy to me.

Didn't get to watch the 2nd game but noticed in box score that Gomes had another 0fer with 2 more Ks, not that there any better options in Iowa to replace him if they wanted too but just think if maybe it's time to stop the 50/50 games split with Amaya and just roll with Amaya now.

The great Curt Casali is your Iowa catcher. He’s hitting  .364 with 4 doubles and a HY, and an OBP of .464.  Better stated: Gomes is the MLB catcher 1.

Yea I doubt there's any plans for 35 yo Casali to join the big league anytime soon or later..lol

It's definitely Bellinger there. #1, you need Bellinger to continue in the game if it goes extra innings. #2. He's your best option on the bench, and absolutely no doubt a better option at the plate in that situation. It's mind boggling to me that in our time of 2 hour games, we have to baby the roster, even in times of trouble where you need to make some adjustments to try to win a game.

Last year was littered with bad decisions like the one in game one yesterday, and is why the Cubs didn't make playoffs. They are a better team this year, but you still shouldn't just be giving away games. In the past two weeks, they've now had 3 of the worst ways to lose games. Winning 8-0 in one, scoring 11 runs in another and your closer giving up a 2 run jack in the 9th to take the lead and not doing everything possible to try to recover by bringing guys in with 2 on and no one out in the bottom of the 9th.

It's a long season, but damn. I was so mad after the first game, I damn near didn't watch the second one. Luckily, I cooled off by game time. I'm not as down on the bullpen as most are. I think there will be times where they can't seem to get outs, but there will be times where they dominate. It's about time to start seeing the domination side of things.

I like this team. They will get it together and Counsell will start looking like the manager the Cubs signed him to be.

I loved the bunt with Amaya…. But if you are going to do that you got to bunt Canario too imo….

you bunt Canario too at worst you are 1st and 3rd with Nico up again… they won’t throw to 2nd… so you still end up 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs.

I’m playing to get 1 run in at that point. If we do that we get to keep playing.
