Yeah on the second part, on one hand I totally see Wisdom as the easy DFA candidate to clear up the spot for Belli. On the other, it's hard for me to imagine that 2 weeks of spring training was enough for them to leave a roster that has Madirgal/Morel/Busch as your third base options. Not that Wisdom is elite or even maybe average at third, but it just seems to unlike the leadership and their commitment to defense to be left with those three at a really important position.

Wisdom isn't good defensively, he doesn't have a lot of value at 3b.  Can't see Morel doing much worse than Wisdom did defensively.  Mastrobuoni might even be ahead in the depth charts over Wisdom at 3B.  At this point Wisdom is mostly a 1B/DH platoon option vs LHP.  How many teams would grab him off waivers at 2.75m?

Wisdom has three options remaining. How much service time does a player need to refuse an option assignment? Wisdom has 3 years and 58 days of service.

Ah - context. You're talking about taking him off the 40 man to make room for Bellinger.

I'd rather remove Keegan, personally.

Morel would be a little worse based on performance to date, but I'll admit that I thought that the gap would be wider, hadn't realized how bad Wisdom has been in the last two years and looking at the game logs it seems like they kinda lost faith in him playing there down the stretch last year. I think he's still here because Madrigal is made of glass, Wisdom has options/team control, and Morel/Busch haven't done enough to prove they are capable of handling the position for an extended period of time if needed without making Steele stab them in their sleep. And I guess because he's been the worst kind of above average hitter and led the team in ISO last year. But his leash is probably pretty short.

Just to get this back to Bellinger. I was not that big into him being a "must get" this offseason, but his versatility is huge. Almost more important than the production he brings. He can play 1st if Busch fails and they can slide in PCA or Canario to CF. It's not ideal, but it will work for a year.

Jed has built in a lot of redundancies to make up for the lack of star power.

Wait, what?

Cub officially sign Belli for what amounts to 30 million.

On the exact same day in the same breath they ask for 30 million from taxpayers for security upgrades.

Call me cynical ?

Is that just for the WS or is that for all the games? I just assumed the city paid for the police to be there.

Edit: The Ricketts do have some balls on them though. Welfare for me, but not for the poors.

It's to install road ballasters around wrigley

BEARS want taxpayers to help pay for their new version of HALAS STADIUM.

WHITESOX beg for taxpayer monies for their new tribute to the glorious REINSDORF EMPIRE.

CUBS need the tax financial help to make their playground safer after a hundred years

Damn, these cheap mother horsefeathers. Just when I was happy with them finding enough change in the couch to pay for Bellinger, they show their true colors yet again.

I am not a fan of Ricketts, but sometimes people go too far. There is nothing wrong with Ricketts asking the city to beef up security around the park. The city does make money in the Cubs too. And he didn’t get one penny to improve the park. Look what the white Sox and Bears want for their parks. Is it right the Sox get hundreds or millions or even a billion dollars to get their stadium built and the Cubs got nothing? Which team/ballpark brings the city more money? I get it, Ricketts sucks. So anything he asks for makes him a greedy bastard billionaire. But in this case, I don’t blame him for asking. Again, I am not a fan of Ricketts. I do think he cries broke while he is making a lot of money. And I hate he doesn’t spend it as if the Cubs are a large market. I just don’t have an issue with this ask.

Stop.  None of them should get a tax subsidy to do a damn thing.  They're billionaires and self proclaimed genius businessmen.  They can figure out how to make it profitable and if they can't, why should taxpayers foot the bill for any of it?  horsefeathers them.

Just want to point out I am not a fan of Ricketts, or corporate America. I just don’t feel like seeing post after post complaining about him asking for funding. The Cubs are a business. A business who makes money for the state and city. So he asked the city for funding. I am fine with them not giving it to him. But if he doesn’t get it, the Bears and the Sox damn well better not get it either.

I've read 5 years of service time means a player can refuse assignment

You must be a product of private schooling.

Ain't no way in hades would anyone take $30 million away from the Chicago Public School System. And to defend private industry to skim from the children is reprehensible

Did you purposely misrepresent my comment so you can make some sort of rant against Ricketts, or do you have issues with comprehension? Are you a product of the Chicago public school system? I said I do not have an issue with Ricketts asking for funding. I also have  no issue with the city saying no. But if it is no, and it should be, it better be no to the Sox and the bears too.

A. You should want the city to say no

B. If the city says yes to the Sox and Bears, that sucks for the city, but you should still want the city to say no. Tom Ricketts doesn't need a handout

You never answered my question

Billionaires pay tax investment accountants tons of money to squeak by their obligations to the community. Ricketts is not a Bezos, but Bezos pays a tax % rate of less than 1%.

Ricketts is gunning for a AllStar game in 2027. Tickets as a result will go for a minimum of $1000 per.

He will soon bastardize the sacred  Cubs uni with advertisements

Ricketts has Taylor Swift as well as other concerts. And he has the nerve to ask the city for help?

Doesn’t matter what I want the city to say. They should say no to all sports teams. Let them all fund their own teams. I just choose to not get worked up about Ricketts asking. Any CEO would.  I am done with topic now. It has me defending Ricketts, which is not something I want to do. I just would rather talk sports than continually bitch about Ricketts.
