I know he's not Sean Payton's type but the Broncos being light on both cap space and draft capital feel like a good economic fit.

Payton has to know if you want to tank for a top pick, Fields is your guy.

I've never seen quite a swing like I've seen on Bears reddit the last few months. My opinion hasn't changed, but I've gone from a troll-doomer-idiot for doubting fields to being on the more optimistic side for my belief that we can probably get a 4th for him and he's useful as a backup/weak half of a competition.

I'm not tuned into the larger Bears fanbase, I think there's still some pockets of Fields Trutherism, but that Packers game changed the vibe entirely where I've seen.

You’ve repeatedly referred to him as a god awful player that can only hurt the team by his very presence on the roster. But then you sprinkle in the occasional, “well yeah obviously he’s a perfectly acceptable backup.”

Just pointing out that your obvious trolling was obvious to everybody.

This is going to be one of those things where you are reacting to your feelings about what I said and nothing I actually said.

I don't think he has a positive impact on the Bears roster in 2024, but I never said he wouldn't have any value to any roster in 2024.

2022 - I don't think Fields is a starting quality NFL QB
2023 - I don't think Fields is a starting quality NFL QB
2024 - I don't think Fields is a starting quality NFL QB

The opinion hasn't changed.  The reactions to it sure have.  We're doing the "you're an idiot/troll for even suggesting it" to "well it's not so much that you said it, it's how you said it" to "everyone always agreed with it" pipeline yet again.

I cannot emphasize enough how amusing it is that "Justin Fields can get an NFL roster spot and a 4th-round pick from someone" is now considered a sufficiently optimistic sentiment that I'm accused of covering my tracks by stating it.

Rapoport reporting on TV that the Bears have not engaged in trade talks for Fields to this point and that they're still making sure Caleb Williams is their guy at number 1.

And I told everyone I didn't even want to go to prom.

If accurate,  Poles is a moron who has basically allowed nearly every landing spot for Fields to dry up because he can't make a decision.

There would of course be locker room issues with Fields/Caleb.  Even the scant comparable history shows that for sure occurs (GB wasn't all sunshines and rainbows twice, nor was Aikman/Walsh. I'm not sure about KC or San Diego, but if you told me there was I wouldn't be shocked.)

But (sample size alert) there also isn't any indication/case of such a shared dev approach delaying or failing a guy. And while some guys like Manning overcome awful rookie campaigns and some like Herbert or Stroud wow from the start, cases like David Carr have most agreeing you can definitely ruin a guy.  If you have the option not to, that's probably a reasonable approach that should be in consideration. Options better than not in most cases.

With Fields having aparently no market there isn't that much purported downside to holding.  You destroy his value from a 5th to nothing?  But if Williams would benefit from a red shirt year, that value is immeasurable.  Or it's totally unnecessary and he could be Stroud day 1.

I think you can definitely weigh the risk/reward upside against the risk/reward of rushing your next shot at a franchise QB and the meager day 3 trade comp.

ETA - or even if a Williams is a Manning who works past rookie struggles, there's value in a higher floor 2024 and competing still - main point being there's a strong argument that rookie QB learning curves may be an unnecessary thing whereas they're sometimes viewed like necessary dev time)

2022 offseason: why didn’t address WR? we have a glaring hole there

*trades a 2nd for Claypool at the trade deadline*

2023 offseason: why don’t we address the pass rush? We have a glaring hole there

*trades a 2nd for Sweat at the trade deadline*

What position will we use our 2025 2nd rounder on?

Remember they have two seconds, so they can neglect two spots in FA 😂

Just keep Fields for now.  Jersey’s right, the only argument that they must be rid of him is this cockamamie idea there will be a collision of egos.  Old timey meatball stuff.

If you don’t like almost certainly wrong unfounded rumors just skip to the next post because it’s almost certainly bs that I’m wasting my time posting about.

so….something called CTESPN which has 30k Twitter followers and some sort of affiliation with Antonio Brown and claims to have broken news before said this earlier this morning

This is likely just like the Nestradamas ohtani to the Cubs crap but ngl I’m slightly nervous that a terrible organization is going to do something terrible. I swear it’s not the edibles talking

Some rando taking a stab so if they happen to be right they get to say they were right and hopefully gain followers.

Darnold to Vikings is done. Which is certainly... a choice by them. Presumably they hope to draft someone and he's their Glennon.

I believe Denver is the only team without a QB1

Don't do this to yourself

Is NFL Europe still a thing? USFL? Fields can go there.  Only kidding,  but the entire NFL doesn't think too highly of him. Maybe a team like the 9ers would take him for a 4th in 2025.

I don’t know if I believe that, but Poles had had plenty of time to figure out what to do with Fields. The determination had to be made before free agency.

If they’re being honest with themselves there’s a lot more teams than that without a QB1.

Cleveland comes to mind. They spent money like they have a QB1, but I'm not so sure they feel they are getting QB1 production.
