Disappointing yet expected as far as only Getsy.

I hope it's Jerrod Johnson or Frank Smith.

No, that was not reported. It was insinuated by one person and walked back.

people need to stop placing blame on stuff others than the football decision makers and players. It’s almost like people think of only these guys were left alone they’d be world beaters.

Every NFL owner sucks. They are all over privileged dumbasses with tremendous egos who think they should have more input than they should. Some of them have lucked into hiring the right people.

The bears problem is a football problem.

Yes its football decisions but its also an incompetent ownership group that has been hiring these goofs for decades. The Rooney family for the most part has gotten right, McCaskeys not so much

I agree that he got Getsy fired and Getsy will also probably get Fields fired, but Nagy only had 12 games with Fields.

I said fair or unfair. That’s how NFL reputations are built.

Not to anyone who actually pays attention.  The idea that Justin Fields got a Head Coach fired during his rookie season when he started 10 games is mind numbingly stupid.

So you are completely unfamiliar with the idea of a coach killer in the NFL?

You’re not asking me, but it is a relatively obscure concept for me. I would think the number of coaches who are willing to coach in the nfl would vastly outweigh the “old boys club” of coaches protecting coaches, but maybe not

I don't get all this there aren't OC's who be interested in the Bears horsefeathers.  It's just useless doom boner horsefeathers.  What potential OC wouldn't want to work with the #1 pick or be the coach who found a way to tap into Fields?

The #1 pick is the one good thing in their favor. Coaches who are good enough to pick their jobs are choosy, and the upper level guys who care about their future are going to view the bears job with skepticism. Generally speaking, a head coach with a very bad record who has had a ton of turnover on his staff already, is on a short leash. The candidates are going to have to weigh their faith in the bears getting better immediately to save their jobs. You don’t want your last job to end in a house cleaning. That puts a stain on your resume and down on the list of candidates for your next job.

These guys always consider their path to the next job when deciding whether or not to take the current job.

and not many guys are going to jump at the chance to coach Fields.

That was clarified by Wrigley in a former post, Poles was good with Eberflus hire

Did he have a choice as a rookie GM? Being good with a coach is different than being the decision maker.

Poles said he didn’t even inquire on Harbaugh. Dumb.

Eh. It was an answer in a press conference. Poles was never going to be the guy who made overtures to Harbaugh. If that happened it would be somebody like Warren or a board member reaching out to reps of Harbaugh. Poles had to keep arms length if he had any hopes of maintaining a relationship with his current head coach. The bears may or may not have talked with Harbaugh. Poles’s answer in a press conference has no baring.

Poles has all the power over Eberflus. Matt should be happy that he still has a job.

My recollection after he was hired was that his first act was to handle Flus' callback interview, along with the callbacks for Dan Quinn and Jim Caldwell.

My old boss told me a story about The Purple Hotel, back when it was first being constructed at Touhy and Lincoln out in Lincolnwood. It was a Pritzker project and the architect had a meeting with the Pritzker matriarch regarding the hotel's color and design. Apparently, the architect had two color books, the client color book, which was basically a pamphlet, and the actual color book, which was a thick tome. The day of the meeting, the architect couldn't find the client color book, and had to grab the actual color book. As a result, she picked that gawdawful shade of lilac and refused to be talked out of it. The rest was history.

To me, Flus was Poles' choice, but that's only because Bill Polian and the other knuckleheads leading the coaching search gave him the client color book instead of the actual color book. So, he had a choice, but it really wasn't much of a choice.

while that sounds like a tall tale, let me reassure you as an architect myself: never allow the client to see an idea or concept you yourself dont love; they are bound to choose the worst possible one. I've seen it happen.

If they hire Frank Reich as OC you could do a lot worse. Poles said he wouldn’t rule out keeping Justin and drafting a QB with the #1 pick which is interesting. I just don’t see Poles having two #1 picks in a row, having a QB on your roster that after three years is far below league average, and not using that #1 pick on a QB in a QB starved franchise.

The anarchist in me would love to see the "Draft a QB and keep Fields" option just because it is such a recipe for chaos and bad blood. But I'm also a fan of the Chicago Bears and want to see them succeed, so I hope that doesn't happen, you know, from that angle.

I'd take Reich I think. I haven't paid too much attention to how he constructs his offenses, but he seems like a serious guy who has had success - this year notwithstanding.

Here it is!

“I made a terrible error,” he told the Tribune. “I brought the color catalog for him to look at. Never do that. Don’t allow the client that much freedom, because they will screw up.”
