It was pretty clear from Poles' quotes to Joniak (I think) on pregame radio that Flus was his guy... hopefully they can get a good OC in... Any interest in Bienemy? Not even sure who you would go after... the appeal of getting to work with the #1 pick is surely there... but if the team sucks again, Flus has to go and you're out of a job

Bienemy is the guy I immediately thought of and Poles should have a relationship with him from KC.  I think if you look at how much the KC offense struggled this year after he left, you maybe have hope that he's a guy who can bring some creativity and solutions to the stagnant stuff we saw this year.

I’m with Bernstein. The bar for this team is too low if Eberflus is indeed kept. Poles talked about owning the North, and the Bears are 2-10 in Division play. I wonder how much influence Warren and McCaskey had in this if they ultimately hired Eberflus in the first place?

After week 3 or 4, some people expected Eberflus to be fired that week. Not only wasn’t he fired, but he was kept even after the Bears lost three double-digit 4th quarter leads and missed the playoffs and finished last in the Division again. I don’t want to hear that Eberflus kept the team together after the dumpster fire that it was early on of his own making.

Washington didn't exactly get a big boost by adding him.

Imagine thinking Matt horsefeathers Eberflus is the guy to lead you to a Super Bowl.  Ugh I hate this organization sometimes.

That is linking to a college football article for me. Possible ESPN jumped the gun and they took the article down?

The first mock draft I read on the athletic has the bears trading with atlanta, moving down to 8 and getting a 2nd this year and 1st next year…, that’s it, that’s the whole trade.

this is gonna be a longgggg four months

Here's a different one for you. I wouldn't leave the first pick unless I get a hell of a deal...so...

(Yes - I know it's completely unrealistic. But hey, it's fun)

the Bears had one real contending team that was from, 1982-1985.

More like 84-91 with 1989 being a dumpster fire. I still remember the Vikings game when the Bears blew a 23-0 lead and Ditka was going to tear Harbaugh's head off. I think the team proceeded to lose 6 straight or something. Its a shame they only one 1 SB, but a lot of that was Ditka and the cheap ass McCaskey family.

This sums up my thoughts on the next OC. Go after guys that aren't calling plays but have that potential. Frank Smith may be a HC candidate, but if he doesn't get a job, he could look for a chance to call plays. That being said, Luke Getsy was a guy with potential as a playcaller that didn't call plays.

Doing the Bear Minimum

Not a surprise. Most quality OCs won’t want to go into a situation with a guy poised to be a lame duck. The one thing they have going for them is the first overall pick. People already view Fields as a guy that got Nagy fired and now Getsy.

there could be some weirdo who actually views himself as the guy to get the most out of Fields. But I doubt it.

The McCaskeys have to be calling the shots on keeping Eberflus right?

I don’t see why anybody would make that assumption. Poles handcuffed Eberflus with a bad roster and Eberflus took the bullets, and can be considered to have withstood the worst and improved the team. Poles probably feels loyalty to him for carrying out his plan.

The McCaskeys want stability, yes. But at this point we can assume Poles wants Eberflus as his head coach. We need to stop assigning decision making to people other than those making decisions. It deflects blame. The 24 losses over the past two years are on Poles and Eberflus. Not Nagy. Not Pace. Not Ted Phillips.

The Bears problem is entirely football people related. Football people making bad football decisions. It’s not more complicated than that.

It was reported last week that McCaskey and Phillips made Poles hire Eberflus, so it would make sense that if they still like him they won’t let Poles fire him if he wanted to

Fair or unfair, they made a play for Fields and lost their jobs a year later. The 30,000 foot view is that guys lost their job with Fields as QB. And now the OC, QB and passing game coordinator lost their jobs with Fields as QB. Guys get coach killer reputations and there’s no way Fields won’t have that on him now.

No, that was not reported. It was insinuated by one person and walked back.

people need to stop placing blame on stuff others than the football decision makers and players. It’s almost like people think of only these guys were left alone they’d be world beaters.

Every NFL owner sucks. They are all over privileged dumbasses with tremendous egos who think they should have more input than they should. Some of them have lucked into hiring the right people.

The bears problem is a football problem.

That was clarified by Wrigley in a former post, Poles was good with Eberflus hire

I agree that he got Getsy fired and Getsy will also probably get Fields fired, but Nagy only had 12 games with Fields.
