Chase Young traded to the Niners.

I can't believe they didn't extend either one. If I'm a Washington fan, I am pissed right now.

Hopefully he isn't from the Pat Williams school of contract demands.

True, but I can see Jaylon asking for 18-20 mil/yr which is top 5 money for CB. Some of the #s back him up that he's on that level. Poles probably sees him at 14-15??? Which it’s top 10 $$$ and due to his health/lack of turnovers. Just totally guessing, but it’s a big enough gap.

Second to having a franchise QB, having a dominant, pressuring defensive line is one of the hardest and most fickle things to have in football, so yeah definitely trade them all

The Commanders are making me feel marginally better about being a Bears fan, so i'll give them that

Niners traded one of their compensatory 3rd rounders. Probably looking to use Young as a pure rental. If he stays healthy and signs in FA (Poles gets both Washington edges after all?), they turn their 2024 comp 3 into a 2025 comp 3.

The Harbaugh thing is strange only because there are reports today that Harbaugh is preparing to sign a lucrative extension this week with Michigan.  2 caveats: 1) depending on the size of the buyout, that doesn't mean he couldn't still leave for the NFL and 2) there is apparently language in there that addresses the the NCAA investigation into Michigan right now and potential penalties.  And I still highly highly doubt that the Bears would want someone like Harbaugh.  Poles definitely doesn't seem like someone ready to hire someone who will siphon off his power (if he's not fired)

right up until they resign Sweat in the offseason, thereby getting their pass rush back AND our 2nd. I mean, you cant put that kind of move past Poles - or lack of move

At the same time they have a decent chunk of money in their front 4 with Payne and Allen and clearly need help elsewhere and have a couple extra picks to help with that.

Is Payne living up to his extension?  Because that was probably the choice.

for now or forever?

I'll give credit where it is due. Poles told him to find a team that would give him a better deal and he couldn't.

So four hours or so and we haven’t heard anything about an extension for Sweat?  If there isn’t one, this is a truly awful move.

I assume he will have to pass his physical first.

Nothing too surprising here.

Chargers were fooling him a lot by disguising coverage looks, standard anti-rookie game plan.  Could have easily had 4 picks.

They started jumping routes a bit and he occasionally beat it (that one third down throw to Moore was so good) but not enough to stop teams from doing it.

Longer throws are erratic.  The one that Jones dropped was a severe underthrow.

I still kinda like the potential as a long-term, long-shot project.  I'm not sorry he's gonna get at least one more start to see how he responds to such a bad game.

That deep ball to Jones fluttered like crazy too. The one to Mooney to start the game seemed to be thrown with a lower trajectory and didn't flutter IIRC (was slight underthrow too). IDK if he has little hands or just can't really throw with loft. But it's really odd.

Man, that Joey Bosa sack is hard to watch on the replay. It may not have mattered given how badly Whitehair was destroyed on the block, but why are you even playfaking on 3rd and 11? Nobody is gonna buy the run there (of course the Bears have inexplicably run on 3rd and long before so ...maybe in their deranged heads defenses will buy it).

Good to see a rundown on some of the things Bagent missed - a lot of it wasn't horribly fatal (he's getting some checkdowns instead of big plays), but still, missed things. (A lot of it was horribly fatal though)

Neither am I, on the whole, Bagent gives me a small ray of hope that should Poles be given a chance to draft a QB.  The QB won't have major processing issues or a super slow release, Poles just may know what to look for in an NFL QB.

Regarding the Bears back stabbing, etc., Fields has anyone at the Score taken into consideration that Collingsworth is stupid horsefeathers hick who talks out of his ass?

The bears beat writers are so lazily covering this sweat trade. They all say, yeah it’s a lot to give up for half a season when you aren’t contending, but they needed pass rush help. None of them are reporting on the fact that they need pass rush help because Poles failed to address the need for pass rush the past two offseason.

this is terrible asset management and another in a long list of examples why the bears can’t risk allowing poles to screw up a potentially franchise altering 2024 draft and offseason.

they have to move on.

And now the RB coach has been fired

this coaching staff is a complete mess.

Lol what?  Is it another Alan Willians situation?

Edit - HR was involved in decision.  Yeesh. What's the pre employment screening process like for Poles/Flus?

Williams resigned / was forced to resign. This is being reported as a firing, but apparently not for football reasons.

either it’s related to the Williams situation, or perhaps he was outed as a mole or source for the SNF crew’s anti Fields rants.
