Watch, this is where they trade Jaylon Johnson and give his money to the perpetually injured Chase Young after they trade for him.

If this does happen it'll be someone young, fast and cheap, probably not a starter on his current team.

I thought for sure that Chargers game would quiet the Bagent is our savior crowd, but it seems like it's going even stronger now. I'm completely baffled. In the name of change people seem to be willing to take anyone other than Fields no matter how terrible they are.

That's exactly what it is, he's Not Fields.

I desperately want to be assured that Fields will not be our QB for a fourth season, but what we saw Sunday ain't that assurance.  It was pretty much exactly what everybody worth listening to said would happen to Bagent in any game they fell behind.

lol Bears are gonna lose 33rd overall pick instead of the 32nd overall pick. Hopefully it turns out better! I’m sure it will be better than Claypool though

if Jaylon gets traded, it’s still incredibly stupid as hell but the Bears have also invested a lot of draft resources on the secondary and we have been bitching about not building through the trenches. That said, why not horsefeathers have both players?

A second round pick for a 27 year old.

Dafuq?

Pick 33 tracking time. 😑

Poles panic buying at the trade deadline for non playoff teams two straight years because FA spending scares him is certainly a choice.

I just don't get it... The Bears take perhaps their only asset - draft capital - and completely squander it on an expiring contract?  Does Poles think his job is in jeopardy if he doesn't make the playoffs?  What other motivation could there be to make this move?

Oh an extension is almost certainly gonna follow.  So I don't think it's a playoff or bust move.

Sweat is a high quality edge and you often do need to trade capital to not let a guy hit FA.  But that's still a steep price.  Like, at least should be balanced with a pick swap if you're giving up a possible 33-38 range pick.

I am pretty much always against paying for a guy twice.  Paying draft capital for the privilege of giving him his FA contract almost never turns out well.

You'll miss out on lots of talent upgrade opportunities then.

Unfortunately I don't know that Sweat is high second + contract worthy, although he is very good.

But to get elite "FA talent", it's normally getting done with a pick and extension and not true FA.

If it's just the 2nd, I don't particularly hate it. The contract extension is just about guaranteed and he's extremely good. Now adding him and getting rid of Jaylon Johnson wouldn't make a lot of sense, but if they keep Jaylon and pay the man, suddenly the defense is starting to look up.

I can live with that.

At the very least, Sweat is likely worth it for this Bears team to give him the Franchise Tag. He's a huge DE with proven pass rush ability (though on a much better WAS DL than what the Bears have). Sweat had 28 QB Hits last year. The ENTIRE Bears DL had 32 last year. Those 28 hits would be the most for the Bears in every single season the stat has been tracked by Pro Football Reference (since 2006).
