I would consider reverting back to what he did during the middle of last season to be dramatic increase in play.  horsefeathers he was having legit solid passing games towards the end of the season (the GB game was really solid until the very end).  The more I think about it the more I wonder what happened for Fields to regress so much over the offseason.  He was never a good passer, but he wasn't this terrible.  Maybe part of it is that teams seem to have a much better feel for stopping his run game (only 109 total rushing yards and 4.5 YPC this year) and forcing him to be a passer, but even that to me wouldn't explain this steep of a drop-off.  He had 9 games last year with a higher passer rating than his best so far this year (78), not that passer rating is a perfect stat, but it removes rushing from the equation.

It's possible that the staff was so focused on him being a pocket passer that it screwed him up, and the Chiefs were a terrible matchup for him to "get right" by being himself.

I mean, he's gonna get at least 10 more games, I'd say. One week at a time and shrug.  Certainly much better two opponents to get on good footing with.

3 games, and each week a (few) (deserved) fire everyone post(s)

And they won’t which speaks to the core issue with the Bears.  Tolerance of mediocrity, or in this case total incompetence.

I’m not normally “that guy” but there is absolutely nothing positive to hold onto at this point. This organization is a dumpster fire and with two potential top 5 picks we can’t let this regime waste those. This team actually looks worse than last season. It’s mind blowing to me.

Might as well keep it together to secure the tank 😭

They do look worse.  Flus might be the worst HC hire for a franchise full of bad HC hires.

Last year's team played a lot of close games, this team just looks overmatched every week.  Like Kyle said this year's team is more talented on paper and there are a ton of new pieces so its not like they are all run down from all the losing.  There's just not enough buy in for whatever reason.

I literally can't think of a player who had a good day today.

I guess Sanborn

Santos was 2/2 on kicks.  Maybe the punter did well?  I wasn't really paying close attention after mid-way through the 2nd quarter though I had it on in the background so got the important stuff.

Pretty sure Gill had a real short punt from our own territory... something under 40 yards from our 25 yard line.

I wouldn't be opposed to getting a veteran placeholder for a year or two if they aren't in love with any of the top QBs this coming draft. If they really like one, fine, but I don't want to force it because we feel like we have to and be stuck with a guy for three more years of this.

I said it before we traded two firsts to move up to get Fields: I want to build the most absurdly QB friendly situation in the league. I want pundits debating whether our next young QB is actually good or if he's just a product of the team investing so much in giving him a good situation that any QB would do well.

We need an entire interior offensive line, probably at least one more WR in the future despite how much we've invested in it, and I still want a real franchise LT not a Aldi's brand one.

Last year they had "an identity". I dislike using that phrase but it's pretty obvious they really excelled at running the football. They haven't been able to do that this year because the OL has almost totally fallen apart. But they signed Davis thinking they were adding another road grader to the line, they signed Foreman, etc. They wanted to lean into their strength even more and just aren't able to with the bodies they still have out there. Without Fields gashing the defense on the ground they're just not going to do horsefeathers.

This cannot be how they envisioned using Moore. I feel for that dude. He produced in Carolina with crap QBs because he was a major focal point and he got a lot of targets. This is going to turn toxic and the Bears will probably trade him for a 3rd or something.

Stop punting. Your defense can't stop anyone and they're going to get gassed early trying to defend long fields. Stop kicking FG down 40 in the 2nd half. There are no moral victories. Nothing is gained in that.

It is really hard to accept but we're looking at 3-5 years before they might be decent again.

Are they more talented on paper? Why? Just because the players are new? These are players selected by Poles and so far exactly zero of them look good. Last year still had remnants of Pace’s actually talented teams that were flawed and poorly coached. The team took a huge step back in talent by not bringing in any last season and this years crop is bringing nothing to the table.

Changing Fields' mechanics added a new wrinkle to his personality that has created lack of confidence. Lack of confidence is a QB killer. Absolutely nothing is going right in Fields' game and it is now showing in his demeanor. Getsy is trying to turn him into a pocket passer and everything Fields learned prior to Getsy is now in doubt. I think Fields went into the KC game with the idea to get back on track, but receivers not being open while he is reading his progressions, receivers dropping passes, Fields missing his target, running lanes not open, OLinemen missing their blocks, etc.... Fields is turning into his own worst enemy in now believing he isn't capable of running an NFL offense. An NFL QB has to have swagger, which Mahomes may be the all time king of swagger. Fields gives the appearance of deer in the headlights now, which I don't believe he had previously.

This coaching staff has ruined him.

The most galling aspect of this all is the inability of anyone - Poles, Eberflus, et. al -. to recognize Getsy is not putting Fields in a position to succeed.  That's the most you can ask of any coach just design, call plays, etc. that play to my strengths and what I do best, i.e., a position to succeed.  This alone is grounds enough to fire Poles, Eberflus, the whole lot.

The coaching staff didn't ruin him.  He's exactly who he's always been.  This is why he dropped in the draft.  This is who he was in his rookie season. This is who he was last year.

The excuses have swirled and shifted, but he has remained constant.

Hey, did you guys know Taylor Swift was at the game??????????????????????

That’s the most memorable thing from this game, even for KC fans.

True. They didn’t ruin him. They didn’t help or develop him. They wasted time and failed miserably. But they didn’t ruin him.

Forgive me if I am wrong but aren't coaches supposed to help make the players better?

The real kick in the balls is going to be after the Bears fire Poles, he'll learn from his plethora of mistakes and, go on be a successful GM.  While football gut Warren hires the next horsefeathers up, cluster horsefeathers, whatever.
