With that Gallen and Taillon match up tomorrow, the Cubs really need this one.

Tomorrow is not ideal, but at minimum split this series

Yeah Kelley and Gallen back to back is tough. Seems like they have complete scrubs pitching for them today and Sunday so that's a positive.

22 games left as of today, and projections show the win total for taking the division at 90 wins. A 14-8 finish would get the Cubs to 90 wins, so that should be the goal if they have aspirations of winning the division.

90 wins seemed impossible back in June.

If, on June 8, after losing 3-1 to the Angels to fall to 26-36 on the season, someone had said "starting tomorrow, the Cubs will go 64-34 for the rest of the season and finish 90-72" you would have bet your life savings it wouldn't happen.

Cubs are gonna horsefeathers smoke Gallen.

Gallen has given up 11 runs in his last 2 starts (10.1 IP). Taillon has only given up 10 runs in 11.2 IP his last 2 😂

Well that is encouraging. I am going tomorrow and hate that I am seeing Taillon. Maybe with the wind blowing in it will cut down on the homers he gives up and he can pitch a decent game.

What'll probably happen is the Cubs will get to and beat Kelley and Gallen but, be mesmerized by today's and Sunday's scrubs.  Getting a series split but, have us pondering if they just could have beaten up on one of scrubs, 3 of 4 sure would have been nice.

Really happy with how the giants series went. We do seem to bounce back after occasional disappointing play. Really need this one too. Let’s go!

Weird little scheduling tidbit - Every single NL team has played the NL West at least 28 games, except for the Cubs who have only played 20 games against the NL West (and just a few days ago had only played 17).  As of this moment with 2 weeks and change left in the season we've only even played 3 of the 5 NL West teams.  The Dodgers and Padres games were all played in April and early May.  Between early May and Monday we only played 3 games against the NL West (in mid-June at SF).  Now we're in a stretch where 16 of our final 25 games are against that division.

Edit: Correction, I guess I'm remembering wrong.  The series in San Diego was in early June, but they played both series against the Dodgers and one series against the Padres in April.

Need to take care of business against the Rockies, especially.  Clown organization, bro.

Will be interesting to see if KB returns.  He's just started taking BP.  They have no reason to rush him back but if he's healthy and they are fine with him returning for meaningless games I could see him playing in that series at Wrigley

Only one other relevant game tonight:

Dodgers @ Marlins at 5:40 CT.  Someone named Ryan Pepiot is starting for the Dodgers while Braxton Garrett is going for the Marlins.  Dodgers trying to avoid a sweep.

We'll either gain or lose 0.5 games on the Brewers, Phillies, Reds and Giants (if they're still a concern) depending on our result tonight.

Best case WC standings (in addition 1 GB Brewers)

Phillies +1

Cubs  --

Reds -4.5

-----------------------

Marlins -4.5

DBacks -5

Giants -6.5

Worst case WC standings (2 GB Brewers)

Phillies +2

Cubs --

Marlins -2.5

------------------

DBacks -3

Reds -3.5

Giants -5.5

Ahem.

Cardinals @ Braves at 6:20 CT. Someone named Adam Wainwright has his 8th attempt at win #199 for his career, in an effort to pull the Cubs within 14 games of the Braves.

You guys are off your game today. Lineup’s been out for several hours and Canario isn’t in it.

Dude literally has a 100% strikeout rate in the bigs. Who would want him to play?
