my preference would have been to try to sneak another inning out of palencia earlier. he's either really good or complete trash, and he looked like we got the good version today.

i think ross is too quick to pull a reliever that's cruising. i wanted him to stick with merryweather in the game the other day because he looked good, and, sure enough, leiter came in and had nothing. 

all that being said, i now want to leave thompson in for the 9th.

Tough call here with a 3 run lead.  I think you have to go to Alzolay unless they add on here.  As huge as it would be to save both him and Leiter, that might be getting a little too cute.

Yeah I think you let Keegan ride at this point, he's had multi-inning appearances and if he's getting tired and struggling you'd want Alzolay anyway so you avoid needing to burn a non-Alzolay reliever either way

Assuming Keegan can finish off the 9th now, this was huge to shorten tonight's game. With Leiter and Alzolay both fresh, now the Cubs only need to cobble 7 innings together.

And you've saved Smyly and Wesneski to mix and match those non-Greene innings too, so you can be really aggressive with Greene if things look like they're going south

Not officially.....neither starter has been announced yet.  But he's almost certainly going to pitch in the game for 3 innings I would think.
