The NL Wild Card race is heating back up, as previously fading teams like the Diamondbacks and Reds have strung together multiple wins in a row.

The good news is that those two teams play each other in a series, starting tonight!

The Cubs are nearing the end of their cupcake schedule, now moving to Pittsburgh to meet their most feared opponent, TBD.

I can’t worry about the other teams. Cubs just have to worry about themselves. I think if they win 20 of the last 36 games they make the playoffs. Can’t worry about every game being played. No reason the Cubs can’t win that many. Still have 13 left with the Pirates and Rockies and no one on the schedule who is a super team (except the Braves who may clinch by the time they play the cubs). Probably won’t get them the division, but it will get them a spot in the playoffs. Basically they need to play at a 90 win pace against a softer schedule then most others they are competing with. If they can’t do that they don’t deserve to be in the playoffs anyway.

They need to keep grinding wins. It would be nice to have a blowout (win) game this series and get the pen some rest. If they can remain in sweeping distance of the Brewers in the final series it will be one of the most exciting ends of the season ever.

Their September schedule includes the Reds, Giants, and Diamondbacks. Take those series and they are most likely assured a spot in the playoffs. I want them to win the division. They have three against the Braves right before the Brewers. The Braves will likely have clinched by then so maybe they will be on cruise control.

I want them to win the division as well. But I would take a wild card berth and at least winning one series. At least the last 5+ weeks of the season matter.

Jed says Smyly will be moved to the bullpen. I’d post the Twitter link but it’s annoying posting Twitter links these days

Belli with another 2-out RBI, Cubs up 1-0 after 1 inning.

Unless his demands are unreasonable, how do the Cubs not ding this guy in the offseason?

A couple 4-0 blown in Detroit.

Now a 3-0 lead blown in Pittsburgh.

Feels like we’ve blown quite a few multiple run leads lately.
