horsefeathers yea! I love it. Cohen blowing the lid off the poverty claims by these [expletive] owners.

Also, I don’t think this will end well.

Fascinated by a medical concern that’s severe enough to cause the cancellation of an official press conference but not so concerning that the player can’t still get 12/315 in a matter of days (if not hours). Really curious to learn whether the Giants reduced their offer due to this medical concern (and if so, how much).

Hah-ha! Yeah, stupid team spending all that horsefeathering stashed away rich scum money! Those IDIOTS.

He could have bought a consultant for every American to help fill out healthcare reimbursement documents with that money.

He just became the least popular owner at the next owner's meetings

Nah, the 100 Million he's giving them in luxury tax payments will buy him plenty of goodwill

1/29th of $100 million isn't enough to offset Cohen exposing their grift

Yeah, I don't think we've seen anything like this in free agency before. It's happened several times in the draft, for instance Brady Aiken (and the Astros were very right), and once with Kumar Rocker (too early to tell, but looks like the Mets might have been wrong). But in FA you'd think it'd ultimately lead to way more of a haircut, or at least some of the money being moved to incentives.

Great news for the Cubs, as that's one of the main wildcard contenders just dealt a severe body blow.

This is going to be fascinating to watch over the next decade.

Are the Mets going to be paying a guy with a degenerative knee condition (or whatever it is) not to play baseball for a decade to the tune of $26 million a year?

If they end up missing the playoffs or getting bounced early, spending like lunatics and doing that is objectively 100000000000000% cooler and more entertaining than being a bunch of cheap weenie bitches who likely end doing the same thing at best, and who will also still just jack up tickets and other attendance costs anyway.

I'll be fascinated to see what they do next offseason. I'm only eyeballing rosters so actual projection systems might differ, but even after their spending spree I'm not sure if they're the favorites to win their division or be a Top 3 team in the NL. So a middle of the road outcome would be losing in the wild card to the Padres again(because 1) baseball and 2) all it takes is one injury/collapse to a 40 year old for them to be at a pitching disadvantage), and they're currently already at 270 LT payroll for 2024. Does Cohen just keep going until results change(which might be an expensive and funny treadmill given the age of this roster)? Does he get bored realizing the spending isn't linearly correlated with success? Do the other owners try to blow up his car Michael Clayton style?

Good for the Mets fans. Their owner realizes that the entire point of owning a baseball team is to try to win by any means necessary. He will make the money to cover this entire contract in like a month of his regular job.

Also, it's fun to have a villain to root against again. Haven't really had that since the Yankees in the 2000s/early 2010s. The Dodgers are just as good, but spend a reasonable amount and are just overall less hateable.

They've mentioned the plan is to build up the farm and do more of a Dodgers deal, and live within a standard deviation payroll-wise of the other teams. But like fat chance they're going to end up that smart or efficient. My guess is that this kind of thing is an outlier, but that they'll live in the low-mid 300's long term.
