Schefter has an article this morning reporting the Bears beat out the Packers for Claypool, even though the Packers offered more picks.

Makes the acquisition a little extra special for me.

It doesn't really say that. It says the Steelers thought the Bears suck more than the Packers and their 2nd rounder would be a higher pick so they took that deal. May have been a mistake based on what we've seen the last few weeks.

wouldn't it be fun if the Bears end up at like #7 and GB at #8, or even #6. just enough to make that trade more about screwing over the packers than it is about how Pittsburghs benefit by choosing Chi over GB

It will be pretty amusing for me to watch the Packers pass over even BETTER obvious WR picks in the first round, next year.

they have a habit of doing just that dont they?

eta: I'd be pretty stunned if GB didn't draft a wr unless they decided Love just wasn't it.

It's amazing to have Rodgers as a Qb and be that concerned with the defense on draft day

Watching the Packers trade up to draft Jordan Love after all the complaining from Rodgers about getting him help at WR was one of the funniest things ever.

Does this mean that Braxton blocked for J-Love?

The trailer is pointless but the full video is a good behind the scenes looking at the top front office guys on the bears looking for the next batch of guys to turnover the roster.

Anyone trash talks the Bears on Twitter from now on and they're right (because the Bears suck), I'm just going to say, "Well my GM can beat up your GM!" Because that's probably right too. Them some big boys.

Yea I thought he plane looked small till I remembered it's too former OLineman (though Poles still looks the part)

i dont know how awesome this is (or isnt) but its interesting that Poles still enjoys scouting even though he has a mountain of other tasks - i'm sure. It seems like a good thing to have a "football" guy leading the way.

I think it's normal and fine, but the thing I always thought was that scouting was inherently a collaborative effort. A GM can make a much bigger singular impact in other areas by fiat basically. In scouting you kind of just hope they're a final careful stamp on the process as well as oversering the vision of what the scouting process should be.

It was a very small jet though. Definitely not Halas Force 1

I think it’s a thing that makes sense in his first year, but will quickly go away once he gains greater trust in his staff.

I laughed at the “who are your guys?” response from the area scout: “the d line is good”

I know they don’t want to divulge names on a team video, but it sounded like a scout that actually slept through the assignment and quickly fast forwarded through game film.

Would Jerry Tilllery be worth a flyer?

Yes. 6'6, 295, a year removed from a 5 sack season. Doesn't look like he has very good PFF grades the previous 3 years, but has a better grade this year when he's been given limited snaps. He was originally drafted for a 4-3 defense and may not be a great fit for the current defense in LA. Notre Dame guy, he'd have plenty of guys he knows on the team and be back in a familiar area of the country. The Bears are getting nothing from Pennel or Blackson this year, so it's 100% worth a shot.

Rams' win last night was big now, if only Denver could find another win, I think the Bears would lock up the 2nd pick. If they Bears and Broncos both end up at 3-14 how do the Broncos end up with the 2nd pick? Is it because they played an easier schedule and are therefore, the worst team?

Should the Bears end up at 2, I'd really like to see them hold on to it and take Anderson. The best player in the draft, the kind of transformative player the Bears need on defense. I want the Bears to get away from the whole defense, defense and run the ball nonsense but, I don't think you can pass on a talent like Anderson. Besides they'll still be able to address OL and WR with their remaining day 1 and 2 picks.

Denver has Cardinals at home and @Rams left on their schedule. Hoping they can stumble into a win one of these two games.

Yeah, that's how the Broncos win the futility tiebreaker. Worse strength of schedule = lost to worst teams = must be worse than team that lost to better teams.

And the same way the Bears can address OL and WR later, they can address DE later. I agree it would be tough to pass on Anderson, but I think you're more likely to find a capable DE in the 2nd round in this draft than you are a WR or OL, especially with the late 2 from the Ravens. If you trade back, that also potentially gives you an extra pick (or 2) before the late 2nd so the dropoff is even less.

So it basically becomes: Anderson + late 2nd round OT/WR vs. potentially the top OT/WR + early 2nd round DE + late 2nd round OT/WR, not to mention potentially getting an early pick next year.

To give you a couple names, just did a couple quick mock drafts.

Anderson + Zay Flowers in straight up draft

Traded 2 for 6, 39 and 2024 2nd to Carolina (didn't take the insane 4, 15, 2024 1st from Detroit) and got Quinten Johnston (WR) + Anton Harrison (OT) + Andre Carter (DE).
