Wtf

They basically have to pay double (at least for 2023) what any other team would, so I just don't see how that math possibly works. If he's worth THAT much to the Mets, there must be another team who would be willing to offer him more while paying out less.

We’ll see. Your logic is sound but I thought the same about Senga. They haven’t seemed to care to this point. Maybe this is one step too far

As bad as it would be for the Cubs this would totally be worth it for the meltdowns. Oh man so many meltdowns.

I didn’t realize Brian Anderson was a FA, as an ancillary 3B/COF add I wouldn’t hate that.I didn’t realize Brian Anderson was a FA, as an ancillary 3B/COF add I wouldn’t hate that on a 1 year deal.

I’m gonna go get the papers get the papers

Now that the Cubs will likely sign Dansby Swanson. What's a reasonable contract that won't make me explode in rage?

it seems much lower than 50/50 that the cubs will even get swanson

taillon was our splurge

Yeah we're probably not getting swanson. If Jed hasn't bent on his principles to this point he's already switched into "smart short term FA signings that could be flipped at the deadline" mode.

Honestly, the "best" move they can make at this point is just sitting out.

next season's free agent position players suck, they need to start adding them immediately

They're going to give Segura some ridiculous 3 or 4 year deal and try to sell him as an undervalued star.

I expect basically nothing but 3rd tier signings that they hype like they're first tier and I continue to watching maybe 2 or 3 games a season.

I may have been too optimistic back then.

There's no way Ricketts or Hoyer have the balls to show up to the convention, right?
Does Hoyer really have a choice? Ricketts is the owner and doesn't have to do anything. Jed... Well, that's kind of his job.

I honestly think there's at least a part of them that is considering cancelling the convention. They're going to get absolutely destroyed by the fans and the media.

This could still get much worse. They could spend big (since they have all of this money and a green light) on a bunch of nobodys to try to save face.

They'll probably cancel it and say it's due to rising COVID/flu/whatever cases, and then keep pumping money into Far Right pockets at the same time.

Count on it, Jed Hoyer the MVP, the greatest fiscally responsible GM in baseball, sounds much nicer than scared and cheap.

If I'm Jed, I'm calling the Angels and saying pick your five favorites.

That's Jed's only hope left - swing a blockbuster trade or two. Ohtani, Jansen, Lopez, Reynolds, Deevers, Varsho, etc. might be available for the right package of prospects.

Signing a bunch of flotsam and jetsam in the hopes they'll be flip-able is worse than doing nothing. Might as well just sit back, prop up Taillon and Bellinger, see what happens on the farm, I guess.

You’re gonna have to show your work on this theory.
