Sad to see.

Always seemed likely, of course, but sad to see. One more reason to hate covid, and one more reason to be shocked at all that extra construction expense, particularly that giant hotel/office complex across the street from Wrigley...

Anyway, thanks Kyle, we’ll always remember 2016 and the Schwarboard, and best of luck wherever you end up!

(Including here of course, but I think we’re gonna nickel & dime this offseason too much for that...)

Maybe they’ll work out like a 3/14 or something deal with Schwarbs to lower the AAV.

Maybe they could sweeten it with a player opt-out in a year or two in case the market recovers?

I wish the market lent itself to this more. This was already a good defensive team last year. Bring in a real CFer and shift Happ to left and it could be elite.

David Dahl needs to become a Cub immediately.

What’s the appeal? He doesn’t really walk, doesn’t hit for power (and he’s played in coors), doesn’t make contact, defense metrics don’t like him.

Get on it, Hoyer!

Both Matt Strahm and Vince Velasquez got tendered, boooo

*Edit*: Edit #2 was to take back Edit #1...woof

Been wanting Stanek for 1-2 years now as a pen arm. Hanser Alberto may be my favorite bat target without digging to much in to other names. He does the contact thing.

Outside of last year, he has always hit 113,110,110 wRC+ his previous 3 seasons. He'd be a solid defensive COF with the ability to fill in a CF when needed. His walk rate should be somewhere between 6.5 to 7% which isn't much below mlb average at roughly 8%. I see him as an .825ish ops guy with 20ish bombs. Not a stud but certainly an everyday quality player.

Why the hell did they NT Tepera. He looked like a nice cheap piece moving forward.

On a pure on-field standpoint I think this is more of a headscratcher than Schwarber. Like I know he slumped in the latter part of the year but come on. Relatedly, I thought this was a pretty compelling defense of holding onto Winkler:

Buying high on a MR, and not really the money just in general, is a bad bet. Also it's actually a pretty nice look and deed to take a DFA'd player, get him patched up and marketable again, and let him shop his services unless he took a starting or high impact role

Also also personally I think the cutter is an old man's pitch that nobody actually likes

3rd in contact% among RP with 20 IP

Only Devin Williams and Edwin Diaz were better. You just don't let that guy go like that IMO. See if he can sustain similarly over a larger sample. Even if he slips a bit he'd still be among the best. Get him in the zone more and he'd be a pretty valuable player. And he's done that before. This year his walk rate was about 35% higher than any of his previous seasons. I have no doubt that he will be picked up by a very solid organization that recognizes his bat missing ability.
