At the very least the season has to be suspended for a few days right?

This should be the benefit to the way they aligned the schedule this year. You have to certainly think about doing that for the East, but the Central and West shouldn't really be affected.

This does show why it was so dumb for the owners to bleed so much time. The season should have had more off days, not fewer. Build in a mini ASB, in case an entire series has to be postponed.

I don't know how you justify not shutting down the Marlins for 2 weeks, and I don't know how you do that without seriously screwing up the schedule for a bunch of teams. Hindsight is 20/20, but I wonder if it was an option to try and set up a schedule that allowed for one temporary shutdown.

If you don't shut down the Marlins for an extended period of time, you're basically saying that you don't really care about the test results anymore, all of three days into the season.

I’m guessing the Cubs game is cancelled tonight too. After seeing how quickly the virus spread amongst the Marlins, i wouldn’t be shocked to see a bunch of Reds get positive results too as their Opening Day 5-7 hitters have all either tested positive or missed yesterdays game with an “illness”. If I’m the Cubs, no way do I take the field tonight

Getting serious flashbacks to the conference tournament week this morning.

As someone above mentioned, could theoretically just shut down the NL/AL East for a couple weeks and revamp their schedule with double headers, less days off, etc. But that seems like a one time fix, and having to play that card 3 days in is a terrible sign.

Edit: Yankees-Phillies canceled. It's been fun guys.

That stupid home run sculpture is literally the only good thing the Marlins have ever brought to baseball.

If the season gets shut down after only a few days or weeks, that is going to be so depressing. I was pessimistic about the chances of making it through a season, but having baseball taken away again so quickly after a glimpse of semi-normalcy would be a punch in the gut.

Internal call with all 30 owners at 1130 Central time

I believe this is a standing call they have every week. That doesn’t mean that they wouldn’t cancel the season, just that the call wasn’t scheduled specifically to address this situation.

They should probably just award the 2020 World Series to the team with the least amount of player positive test results since the Summer Camp intake period. No idea which team that could possible be, but it seems like the fair thing to do.

If that same team happens to be tied for the best record in MLB right now, all the better for competitive integrity.

Don't cancel the season. Just jump right into the playoffs. There are eight teams in each league that are all 2-1. Sets up perfectly. Seed them, and let the post season begin. WS Champ by Labor Day!!

That is not how math works.
