I think it’s pretty clear there is a culture issue with this team. All the players have to get that “how are we going to blow this?” feeling every single game.

So the culture of the last five years is gone, replaced by a 5 game stretch? This is miserable/morbidly entertaining, but get the horsefeathers out of here with this big picture meatball stuff.

They blew a big division lead last year and blamed the schedule. Meanwhile the Brewers just rattled off 15 of 18 with no off days and no Yelich

the last 5 years have been good? I see 3 good to great years sandwiched in between 5 years of dog horsefeathers.

What in the hell are you talking about.. i see 4 years with a 95 win avg, a world series, and an injury riddled shitty season that we were in the division/playoff race all year.

97, 103, 92, 95 wins. I’d say that’s a pretty damn good run.

EDIT: Most wins in the majors in that span. 1 of only 2 teams to win 90+ all four years (Dodgers) and only the Red Sox and Indians won 90+ in 3 of the 4 seasons.

It's weirdly impressive for last season to end like it did...and then their response is blow the very next season in an even more horrendous fashion.

Haha. Yup.

I don't care if this roster should be blown up or not. I want it blown up.

guess we have different standards.

I don’t consider last year to be a success. yeah they won 95 games but half of the league was tanking. and they choked on their own balls down the stretch. this year was a complete and total disaster, injuries or not. I mean yelich is way better than any cub and way more important to the brewers than anyone is to the cubs and they are cruising.

also, this run of being good was predicated by years of unwatchable trash, and that counts for something. yeah I’d take the last 8 years because it meant a WS but man if Jose Ramirez was standing 4 inches to his right...

Not for original conversation, which is "last five years."

Jim Hendry was GM for 9 seasons and had 3 playoff appearances. Theo is gonna be 4/8. It'd be funny if they missed again next year and he ended up being exactly one appearance better than Hendry (and that one appearance was a play-in game loss).

Sure, Theo got through the playoff crapshoot time, which was super fun but doesn't specifically reflect on him as an executive.

Wait, I can cherrypick it even harder to really make it funny.

Both Jim Hendry and Theo Epstein:

Full seasons running the Cubs, 8

NLDS appearances, 3

K now do NLCS and World Series appearances

Now you’re moving the goalposts.

Theo got you to cry tears of joy. I just read the Game 7 thread yesterday and saw that.

He wins.

Lol. They helped get us our MVP and a World series hero, that’s how they count.

We are counting last year as making the playoffs? The 1 game play in game that we lost? Miss me with that ...Divisional series or bust is the actual playoffs all the rest is falling short

Only the Cubs could make their glory days feel this horsefeathers.

The silver lining I'm hoping for in this situation is the Cubs needed to totally miss the playoffs for real change to happen. Maddon needs to go, and then some. I know anything can happen in the playoffs but this team wasn't going to do dick.

you’re allowed to get good players without intentionally losing for three years

Cardinals have clearly mortgaged their season entire franchise to Satan.

We're gonna lose every game in this series by a single effing run.
