Kemp is kind of a nothing, but he could be a pinch-runner/defensive replacement, I guess, so that makes him more useful than Maldonado was.

Interesting. Guessing that's our big move for the day.

I really liked Maldonado's defense behind the plate even though he will end his Cubs career with a .000 BA in 11 AB

Like it

why?

Can play multiple spots, can take a walk, is fast enough to steal a base, has been a league average hitter to better the last two years. He’s not Almora, Descalso, Bote, Garcia or Happ?

Kind of?

Above average hitter last year when his BABIP was .296...this year it's gone down to .233, which seems like it needs to go up. We know longer have to hear laughter when our big pinch running move late game is David Bote.

Yeah, it's not going to change much, but he belongs on a 25 man roster, which is more than you can say for at least a couple of the guys that have been on it all year.

I guess also if Tony Kemp is worthy of being on a 25-man roster, there is more value here because he's controlled rather than being a free agent like Maldonado.

We all really need the Cubs to add something bigger, though.

He's a better hitting Almora who can also play 2B and we got him for a catcher we probably weren't going to play. I approve.

he's a CF?

Last year 23 innings at second, 393 innings in left, 226 innings in center. Obviously graded out as a slightly negative defender, so probably a defensive downgrade over Almora...who knows about second base.

I remember watching part of an Astros game last season thinking "who the horsefeathers is that really little guy?" It was Tony Kemp. So at least I will not react to this deal with a "who?"

No that was Jose Altuve.

Perhaps you've never seen Tony Kemp.

He's played more 2B (215 innings) than OF (145 innings) this year.

Altuve and Kemp are both listed as 5' 6", 165 lbs

That’s only because it’s the lowest height and weight allowed in the create a player mode.

Tony Kempana

I wonder if they thought they had a deal for Caratini when they traded for Maldonado and that plan fizzled.
