as I've said all along, Cole Hamels is a star and a bargain at twice the price

He’s really been unbelievable as a Cub. Wasn’t he in the straight up 5+ ERA territory as a Ranger (though to be fair that park isn’t great for any pitcher)

Great win

I'm never one to be like "we need a sweep," but man one this weekend would be huge. Next week has a real chance to be a horsefeathering bloodbath, so any cushion we can get going in would be extremely useful.

Man, we do a lot of complaining about our bats as a team, and we have 6 hitters with wOBAs north of .350. The Cards have 2, and barely so.

It's worth pointing out: The Cardinals are a bad team

I was going to reply and say something about how the Cubs are good enough that no week should be considered "a real chance to be a horsefeathering bloodbath", but then I looked at the schedule and saw 3 games at Coors and 4 at Dodger Stadium. Can certainly do well, but yeah thats about as tough as it gets.

5-5 between this weekend and next weekend would be fine and all I'm hoping for. Winning (or sweeping) this series would obviously go a long ways to making 5-5 the floor for next week.

He was horrible but I think the park was a big factor, he also made a mechanical tweak right before he came over or as soon as he got here. IIRC.

Exactly. I was just hoping that this two week stretch we wouldn't be a disaster considering how tough those two series are in isolation AND that they come at the end of a 33 games in 34 days stretch. After how well this week has gone so far, 5-5 over these ten would be awesome.

The great news is though that after next week, the schedule gets pretty soft. We'll be done with the Dodgers, done with Houston, done with Colorado, and done with road trips to the Braves and Nats. Basically every tough road series outside the division except the Phillies (and I guess the Mets if the pitching lines up right?). So if we're still within a game or three of first place next Monday, we're totally winning the division by at least 5 games.

I guess he needed to throw a few more insults in there to make the joke clearer
