Man I am usually so excited about the season starting. I am so meh on this years Cubs team, Mark Zagunis AYFKM? Way to slam the window of contention shut, guys. A total debacle over the past year or so.

 

I am excited to see Javy do Javy stuff though.

That is definitely just a drifter who snuck in and stole a uniform to hide out so the railroad bulls don't nab him.

i'm concurrently both annoyed that schwarber isn't in the lineup and at the same time not giving that many fucks about what the lineup is in a given day

 

if this were like dusty putting like rey ordonez and macias at the top of a lineup, that'd be one thing. otherwise, don't really care. i'm horsefeathering excited.

There wasn't any money in the budget to convince Todd Hollandsworth to come out of retirement. Is Tuffy Rhodes still available just for opening day? Imagine him and Fukudome in the lineup together!

If only we had seen Schwarber do something like...hit a home run off a tough lefty in the past few days. I dunno, maybe like off David Price or something.

Schwarber has less than 200 career PAs against lefties. I guess that closes the book. The funniest thing to me is that he had a .352 OBP against them last year, so he was showing considerable improvement.

I'm slightly annoyed that Schwarber isn't starting, but I don't think this is necessarily a sign that he won't get significant time against LHP. If it wasn't Opening Day, I assume Heyward would be the one sitting.

Because there's selection bias in those splits. He doesn't see very many left handed hitters, and the few that he does see are guys like Rizzo who are going to skew the stats.

 

That's the idea, anyway. It's certainly possible he jut has reverse splits, but I'm way to lazy to do any real digging into this.
