So putting international signees aside, the problem with this system is that it places an even greater premium on drafting college players in the draft because they can make the big leagues faster than HS players. A top college prospect can be ready within 1-2 years after being drafted while most top HS prospects still need at least 3-4 years before they're ready. If the X number of seasons of control is the same for every player then college players would give you the most value and the highest output. Let's say "X" is 9 years of control then a college player could be ready within a year giving the team drafting him a full 8 seasons of control. This system would heavily penalize HS players and teams drafting HS players, and as a bizarre consequence make more top HS prospects choose to go to college as a result.

I don't like the idea of fixing it to an X number of seasons because of these reasons.

Yeah, I may have worded it badly... my scenario high school draftees and college draftees contracts are for a different number of years for that very reason.

EDIT: probably should have said high school draftees are for X years, college draftees for Y years, etc.

I think that situation would be easily avoided if you make it X years from signing with a caveat that says not to exceed Y years in MLB. So if it's a 10 year window from signing and the player is in MLB after 2 years, there's a 6 year maximum at that point from the time of promotion.

Call it a 8 year contract, following the year after they're drafted. If a guy is ready to play right away, the team gets 8+ years of service time. Everyone hits FA after 8 years with just different types of FA. Thus much less reason to hold guys down unless you're jockeying for the different teirs of FA. Still have a rule 5 draft for guys who haven't advanced after x years.

>6 years service time, full unrestricted FA, no draft comp for lost players

4>6 years, restricted FA (matching rights with minimum qualifying offers required and draft comp).

<4 years service time, early restricted FA (not exactly sure how I'd design it, but perhaps a smaller qualifying offer but that's multi year in nature) no open negotiations.

Yeah I don’t buy the ill will stuff, especially considering the source and others saying differently. They were pretty open about this from the start that it wasn’t really personal or anything. It was mostly Boras taking the highest profile guy to bring the issue to the surface for the next CBA and KB wanting to affect change for the good for players.

Counterpoint: Bryant clearly hates the Cubs, and it's actually now the most likable thing about him.

If you are to believe this MLB Network ranking, he's not THAT awesome

Does make me realize how stacked the 3B position is right now. Moncada didn’t make this list either and he arguably had a better season than KB last year

I had to look up who McNeil even was, and I for one am shocked that this Ryan Ludwick esque loser isn't on the Cardinals.

best part

2019

RF - 300 innings

2B - 244.2 innings

3B - 154.1 innings

That was because of Todd Frasier. He'll be their primary 3B this year barring any big surprises.

It’s one swing at less than 100% so who knows how much this will be his in game swing but he’s definitely more upright in the video (always kinda assumed he’d get more upright as he ages and less crouched as he lost some athleticism and flexibility) his front foot/side is also a little more open than I remember too along with a little bit of a leg load.

Reminds me of the adjustments Brennen Davis made to take advantage of his size, long levers, and eyes to unlock more power

How do you "take advantage of your eyes"?

Asking for a friend (Mike Olt).

Primarily by opening them and looking at things.

There is weird wholesome and cool wholesome. KB is cool wholesome

Zobrist = weird wholesome

I’d say not weird imo. I’d go:

Zobrist = nice, uncool wholesome

Details on the arbitrator's decision have come out.

the injuries to Olt and LaStella, the fact that Bryant had the worst spring training fielding percentage of any 3B, and this appears to be the clincher

Irvings highlighted how in Epstein’s previous 14 seasons running a club’s front office, not once did he promote a true rookie in September or have one make his 25-man, Opening Day roster.

“He had a philosophy of player development that he had followed at that point for 14 years as the person in ultimate control of baseball operations at two big-market baseball clubs,” the report said.

“The association is correct that Bryant’s minor league and spring training numbers were exceptional, even unprecedented, but it cannot be said that consistent adherence to a philosophy that had proven successful is evidence of bad faith motivation.”

If Theo could've been 100% honest he definitely would've said, "Look, guys, I didn't want it to look this obvious that we were gaming his service time, I would've brought him up later than the exact day we secured the extra year but all my other third basemen got hurt"
