Olney mentioned on his podcast today that there is speculation within baseball that Roberts and Maddon could be gone if they get bounced early.

Regardless of tonight's outcome, I still find it hard to believe the Cubs would fire a guy 2 years removed from a World Series title and in the middle of a 4 year playoff run. The only way it happens is if the rift between him and the front offense is irreconcilable.
He has 1 year left on deal, if there no interest in extending him, probably would be the best time to bump him and get someone else in now..

Girardi said he wants to manage again

we should trade for Molina and make him player manager, we don't have a player better than Trout that it would take to get it done though

I’m sure he does, but he’s awful

Way too many Wrigley playoff games a lot like this one since the 2015 NLCS. Fortunately we won the 2016 World Series.

It would seem to be very unlike both teams/FO’s to make their decision based off the postseason. Off other reasons, sure. But just based off playoff performances I find that hard to believe. I still don’t think Joe is gone unless he decides to retire.

what makes you think it would be "based off playoff performances" in maddon's case? It's more likely (assuming this report is real, who knows) that they want to get rid of maddon but are wary of doing it if the cubs make an extended run in the playoffs again. Losing the division lead and then dropping 163 and the WC game at home would just allow them to more easily cut Maddon loose without too much scrutiny.

Based off the post I replied to and the other article today of it being based on how the playoffs go? If they want him to go fine, I’d completely get it. But the reason being how the playoffs go I 100% don’t buy.

like they’re for sure firing chili like immediately right? like this isn’t crazy knee jerk fan stuff...he’s 100% gone?

I mean it’s hard to compare the offensive numbers from last year to this year and look at the % of PA taken by players on the team in 2017 and not fire him. I’m sure Theo has some fancy advanced statistics that tell him how much Chili sucks too

I hate the Maddon is "the manager who won the World Series for the Cubs" when he did everything in his power to blow it.

whose call was the hitting/pitching coach firings?

"gone if" does not mean "gone because"

I want them to replace Maddon with an 80's sitcom robot that just prints out probabilities on that tractor feed printer paper.
