On the radio today I heard them say Chili was a Maddon choice and their job security is connected, but I had it in my head that Chili was mostly the FO and Hickey was more connected to Joe.

Jokes on the Rockies for wasting their best starter on the Cubs lineup

yeah they are going to do real well with 2 worthwhile starters against the Brewers and they both pitched the last two days

I’m sure it’s contractual

like they’re for sure firing chili like immediately right? like this isn’t crazy knee jerk fan stuff...he’s 100% gone?

I mean it’s hard to compare the offensive numbers from last year to this year and look at the % of PA taken by players on the team in 2017 and not fire him. I’m sure Theo has some fancy advanced statistics that tell him how much Chili sucks too

If there's any truth to the idea that Joe's on the rocks, there's no way Chili comes back.

lester is at 56 (i think that is close) pitches through 4. he could realistically go 7 (maybe even 8) and the cubs are down 0-1.

that's not even an optimistic take. it's an observation.

If the Cubs are still trailing, he likely doesn't take his next at bat.

No way if still 1-0

Barring a home run in front of Lester, his next at bat will either be with runners on in the 5th, or leading off the 6th. He can't be allowed to take either of those at bats.

The reports are Joe wanted to dump Mallee and get Chili, although the FO wouldn't have done it if they didn't want to.

what makes you think it would be "based off playoff performances" in maddon's case? It's more likely (assuming this report is real, who knows) that they want to get rid of maddon but are wary of doing it if the cubs make an extended run in the playoffs again. Losing the division lead and then dropping 163 and the WC game at home would just allow them to more easily cut Maddon loose without too much scrutiny.

Based off the post I replied to and the other article today of it being based on how the playoffs go? If they want him to go fine, I’d completely get it. But the reason being how the playoffs go I 100% don’t buy.

"gone if" does not mean "gone because"

If they want him gone I think he’s gone. How the playoffs go don’t matter short of a WS win.

3 hitting coaches in 3 years sounds like a totally stable thing to have happen

Eventually you have to blame the hitters. The team wasn't good under Mallee last year in these games.

It'd be 1 in 4 years if we weren't horsefeathering stupid enough to fire Mallee for no real reason. Can't let one mistake beat you twice.

Have you seen the bullpen? If it's still 1-0 and he's not losing it.....tough decision. Especially if leading off the 6th. All the PHs are LH.

Regarding Joe getting fired, there are a lot of little reasons why but I wouldn’t be surprised if his comments about Addison was what pissed Theo off enough to really piece together all the reasons and really consider his job security.

Jesse Rogers wrote in a story about the bats today that they've gotten better in situational hitting. I don't know what he was looking at but I looked up BA/OPS with runners on, RISP and RISP with 2 outs and they all got worse except for BA with runners on, which went from .256 to .269.

I imagine most situational stats got worse since our offense as a whole got worse.
