This is the team that wrung 30 dwar out of Omar Narvaez in his 2.5 year stint with them. Skepticism is wise here but there is recent precedent of those early shaky catcher metrics actually holding up when the sample becomes meaningful.

Matt McClain was called up by the Reds this weekend. He and De La Cruz are going to be giving the Cubs a lot of trouble for a very long time.

Ken Griffey Jr is the 4th highest paid player for the Reds this year. As part of his contract, he got just under $3.6M in deferred money each year through 2024.

The Reds might be (probably will be) unloading India at or before the trade deadline. They should get a good return on him even though his defense is pretty suspect. They are an organization on the rise (I think I’ve been saying this for five years, lol).

Oakland is on pace to go 34 and 128 and have a negative run differential of 548 runs.  They've allowed 80 more runs than any other team in baseball, 391 vs Colorado's 311.

The Cardinals payroll looks like it will go up next year even before signing any free agents due to a few contracts rising in value as well as several players hitting arbitration.

They lose 3 of their starting pitchers.

Paul Goldschmidt has 2 more years left on his contract. His 5 and 10 kicks in next year.

There’s a pretty good argument to make that whether the Cards go for it next year or do a rebuild, this is the season they should trade Goldschmidt.

i don’t think they will. And if they did, I don’t think it would be to the Cubs, but he’d basically be the perfect fit for the Cubs’ roster.

Reds about to win their 7th in a row and 10th in their last 12.  I know they have a lot of young talent but are they really good enough to run away with the division?  I feel like the pitching still has major question marks.  But they just keep winning.

Yeah that seems like an understatement

This is also why whatever optimism I might have about the Cubs doesn't really change with what the Pirates are doing, that rotation isn't gonna stay solvent the whole year either.

I dunno I'm kinda with Martinez on this one.  Guy had a weird thing on the end of his bat, he asked the umpires to check it/if it was legal, umpires said it was fine so he didn't make further fuss.  EDLC hits a HR and points to his bat, as he should be allowed to, and Martinez thinks he's being a baby for taking it personally, as he should be allowed to.

I didn't mind that Martinez asked the umps to check his bat since it was strange piece of equipment.  I had a problem with this part:

Quote

"I love the way he plays the game. I didn't like his antics after he hit the home run," Martinez said. "We could do without that. He's only got [a couple] weeks in the big leagues. But he's going to be a good player."

Right, Martinez is allowed to check a strange piece of equipment, and he's allowed to think EDLC is being immature for taking it personally in his celebration.  He's not objecting to fun/celebrations, the situation is tantamount to a guy hitting a HR after a check swing appeal doing a fake point to 3rd base to celebrate.

Why do you hate fun?  I'm with OO on this one.  Martinez sucks.  Him losing his mind a couple weeks ago was awesome though.
