Thrilho, the Bears are a playoff contender, but I don’t see them being better than the Vikings with an unproven QB like Trubisky. Rodgers is too good to have them automatically vault past the Packers. Trubisky is the wild card and an unknown and he’s the most important position on the team. Things are looking great for the Bears and you gotta be hopeful. Worst case team is 9-7 if healthy, but let’s see how Mitch is with offensive weapons.

Yup, what you think of the Bears depends mostly on what you think of Trubisky. I think he’s the best non-Rodgers QB in the division by large margin and he’ll prove it this year.

But aside from him, you’ve now got Nagy and he may be the biggest key to how good the Bears are this. His offense looked really good this preseason and he probably kept quite a bit of his playbook of the table. I think the Bears weapons at RB, WR, and TE are better than anyone else’s in the division. One who guy I think is really being underestimated is Miller. Him, Robinson, and Burton are going to be a handful even for getting about Cohen and Gabriel as a deep threat. Howard in the running game. Lots of loving pieces for Nagy’s offense.

Then I think Trubisky has a similar skill set to Wentz, so I think he could have some great success right out of the gate. And there’s a lot there for Nagy to work with if they want to treat him like Watson last year and keep to one and two read plays with a moving pocket. I think we’re going to see offensive success day 1 against the Packers.

Then the defense just picked added a guy who can single handedly collapse a pocket to an already pretty good defense. And Smith is supposed to be pretty good too. This linebacking corps is going to be ridiculous if it can stay healthy.

All these are just my opinions and I’m usually pretty optimistic. But the Bears just keep doing what I’m hoping that they’ll do. Hopefully it works out!

Cousins and Stafford had on average 97 QB ratings the last 3 years with a 3:1 TD to INT rate (85:30) while throwing for about 4,500 yards per season. Trubisky is not better than that by a large margin.

"Unproven" is such a weird thing. Either he's good or he isn't. What he's proven won't matter.

Unless we are predicting how a player will perform with little NFL experience

We had an entire season to watch him.

I also hope this trade has something to say about what they think of the offense/Trubisky. We haven't had much to see of the first string in the preseason, but maybe things have progressed faster than they might have originally thought and began to think the offense is going to be good enough to really go for it now.

3/4 of a season. That's little NFL experience in my book. I'm optimistic because he has better coaching and better weapons around him, but we don't know how good Mitch can be because we haven't seen him on the field with many playmakers.

He doesnt have to be that good yet. Smart coaching and a good D (if they can solve the turnover problem especially) will take this team a long way from where they've been.

He doesn't have to be, but he is pretty good. He got better consistently throughout the year last year. The stat line doesn't look great, but it was an impossible situation to put up stats. The receiving group wasn't even replacement-level by NFL standards and the team was constantly having to pass in trailing situations when defenses are set up for the pass.

I thought by the end of the year, he was making good decisions and accurate, NFL-quality throws. I'm comfortable considering him at least an average QB going into the year and possibly better.

Gentlemen’s bet on who scores the most fantasy points between the three in a standard league?

This is 54. Somebody else is going to have to go.

I basically copied that list right off the Sun Times. I get the 5 TE's with Brown and Shaheen banged up. If I had to guess, I'd probably guess Grasu.

ETA: It's Kahlil Mack that isn't officially listed yet. So will it be Lynch or one of the kids that gets the axe?

I'm assuming Grasu. But 6 OLBs seem like much with Mack and Floyd at 1-2. But I'd imagine they'd keep all of them until Mack gets fully up to speed. I'd cut Grasu. Probably add a swing OT (Austin Pasztor is a guy cut that I like) and a CB and cut Cooper and Sowell. Then in Week 2, bring back John Jenkins and cut one of those OLBs (Fitts to PS?).

But the best thing about this roster, and probably the main reason I was all-in on this Mack trade.....the only significant free agents are Goldman, Amos, Callahan and Massie. Goldman is getting re-signed, I don't think that's an issue. Amos isn't going to break the bank with the safety market this offseason. Even if he does(for some other team), from all accounts, Deon Bush looks ready to step up if needed. Another offseason and Coward may be ready to replace Massie. He was a DL last year that forced himself on the 53 with a strong camp/preseason. Could be ready to start at RT this time next year. Callahan could get pricey, but this is where I think the Bears add a cheap replacement either in FA or with their 3rd round draft pick next year.

Of course, this is counting on guys staying healthy and performing but this roster could be almost set in stone for the next 2-3 years. We'll see if it's good enough.

Hes official, just on the reserve/ did not report list. Must be at least trying to work out a trade.

I'm preaching to the choir here, but I can't believe how much of the general football world (fans and punditry) don't realize that the Bears are going to be good this year.

They had a lot of good pieces in place that were overshadowed by some of the worst lineup black holes I've ever seen at the NFL level, which allowed teams to gameplan to account for the good players too easily. That's not the same as having no good players.

There's gonna be a lot of "breakout" years for guys now that the entire 22 is competent enough to be accounted for. God I cannot wait to see what the rest of this defense can do when Mack is commanding a double-team at all times and they're playing with a lead.

some national media guys have them as a team on the rise but you're right they're being slept on big time

reminds me of going into the 2015 cubs season

still good value on them in vegas last i checked. i might place some small bets on those long odds for the hell of it.

Bears went from 100-1 odds to 60-1 odds to win the Super Bowl with the Mack trade
