He’s basically a Corey Seager replacement. Puts them where they would have been had Seager’s arm not fallen off.

Curious to see the price and curious to see if the Dodgers pursue Manny in free agency next year. With a healthy Seager, they have the left side of their infield set. But when will Seager be healthy again if ever?

fun fact: Manny Machado has never had a season as valuable as Seager's rookie year.

I’d prefer it to the brewers though the brewers trading prospects for a rental that doesn’t make them better than us is always intriguing

On the one hand, I want him traded for a really light return to set the overall market cheaper for us to get what we need.

On the other hand, we do not need as much as other teams, so I want them to have prohibitive prices to pay.

fWAR.

By bWAR, Machado has three seasons better than Seager’s rookie season. This year, however, Machado’s not on pace for a better season than Seager’s rookie season primarily due to how poorly his defense grades out at SS.

Is there some consensus out there that fWAR is better than bWAR? I go to BR more quickly than I do FG, but largely only due to the fact that I find the site easier to navigate.

I prefer fWAR, I think FG is easier to navigate than BR, ha. The answer is probably a blend of the two to find true value.

The super easy way to explain why I like fWAR more is how fWAR values the underlying things guys do vs bWAR going off of more what guys actually did on surface numbers.

I know it doesn’t really work that way most of the time, but I hope the Dodgers adding Manny ups the level of trade targets for us with the bullpen add(s) or even starter (DeGrom) since I believe Theo views the Dodgers as our main competition.

Is that still true for hitting and defense stats? I'm pretty sure they are very similar, UZR vs DRS for defense, and both use wOBA as the base for their offensive WAR. I think B-R actually normalizes for league more than FG does now. With pitching you still have the RA vs FIP situation, but for hitters idk that FG is really more about valuing the underlying things guys do than B-R these days.

You might be right on hitters, but pitchers are definitely different and I prefer the FG way of measuring that with FIP.

I do not want the NL's hottest team (+59 RD since June 1) to get Manny Machado

Yeah, if they’re going to trade him, I’d prefer if he goes to the Phillies.

Apparently late last night the Brewers agreed to add a young stud reliever to their offer. No details yet, but sounds interesting.

The Dodgers FO rebutted this offer, stating that the young reliever would only have value to the St. Louis Cardinals.

Yep for several reasons including one Harper suitor a lot less likely to be a threat

cool stat, Bryce Harper would not crack the top 9 hitters on our roster for fWAR rn

At this point of the competitive cycle on the position player front it’s just about adding complimentary pieces.

We should offer Javy an extension thats low on the surface but reachable to $400 million if he meets all kinds of dollar incentives for the really hard plays he makes like his slides, tags or walks.
