Again. I don’t see how you can blame Maddon here. Is it his fault they are having horrible ab after horrible ab. How does lackey walk that scrub in front of babe turner with 3 pitches that even Javy Baez wouldn’t swing at.

Do you see the problem here?

Here’s the thing. Wades arm is about to fall off. And they haven’t hit worth horsefeathers for the entire playoffs. Roll the dice with lackey who’s been ok lately.

How about rondon? And if you go with ‘he gave up a home run yesterday’ as if that outweighs the 36 lackey gave up this year, then you’re as bad as maddon was tonight.

Lackey has never in his entire major league career pitched in consecutive days. What pills are you taking to think THIS was the horsefeathering day to break that streak?

Man, is this disappointing to hear.

I've been surprised so many people were wondering if he was hurt. This isn't new ground for Maddon. Not having him start the 9th is fine, but you don't double switch in Lackey at the top of the order.

Inexcusable to not have Wade in there. horsefeathers off, Joe.

Agreed. Assume that lightning strikes and they actually score a run. Big if. Who closes it out! You need lackey anyways.

Go with Wade in the high leverage situation and deal with the remaining innings as they come. This is a rookie manager mistake. We were making fun of Dusty for this stuff just a few days ago.

This is all so dumb but also not that different of a spot we were in, in the CS/WS last year where the offense looked like horsefeathers then got going in a series. Bad news is I don’t think we are getting any short rest starts vs us but I’m still cautiously optimistic that after Wednesday this series is tied 2-2

That's horsefeathering stupid. You send your best pitcher out, especially against their best hitter, not one of your worst. The goal is to extend the game and give your offense a chance.

i'm still more upset about our impotent offense

how can everyone slump at the same time

IDK. It's almost like they faced 4 starts in 7 games against guys who will be top 3 in the Cy Young this year.

I get it, but those guys do still give up runs. Even considering the opposition, the offense has been sub-par.

Cubs scored 2 in 5 innings vs. Kershaw. 3.60 ERA, he had a 2.31 this year, 2.36 for his career.

No ERs vs. Strasburg in 14 innings, but scored 2 in 7 against him in Game 1 (2.57 RA, 2.82 RA during the season)

Scored 5 vs. Scherzer, 3 ER. For a 3.68 ERA. He had a 2.51 this year.

The Cubs offense is good, but "those guys do still give up runs" is a bad argument. Everyone gives up runs. They're better at not doing it than any other pitchers in this league. And STILL the Cubs did as well against them as could be expected.

Welp, it took me 169 games, but I'm finally irate about the 2017 Cubs.

I'm more angry about this game than any single playoff game last year. That 9th was a managing apocalypse. The Red Sox would have probably fired Joe 3 times over for it by now.

This isn't horsefeathering June. It's October. Wade didn't pitch on Friday, he didn't pitch Saturday and he's not going to pitch on Monday. Nobody is saying to run him out there for 50 pitches again. But it's the top of the order with the game on the line. You don't go down with your 8th best pitcher. You leave Duensing in and hope to steal one against 7-8-9? Sure. But when the inning got dirty, you bring in your best pitcher. He should have been brought in for Taylor.

.172/.266./.272 as a team

again, no pitching is that good

we're facing great pitchers who are executing but we're probably between 2 and 3 standard deviations below where you'd expect this offense to be at. we're in almost worst case scenario territory.

Scherzer .178/.242/.319

Kershaw .184/.204/.268 (in 2016)

WRONG. Some pitchers are that horsefeathering good.

I get that the offense has been terrible. But here's the thing...even someone like Bryant or Rizzo, I expect them to fail at least 60% of the time. Sometimes those failures run together, and it sucks and it's frustrating, but those guys and pretty much everyone else in the lineup have earned the benefit of the doubt over the last two plus years.

I expect Joe to make the best decision every time, because there is a right answer out there. There's no way you can defend this decision, especially if Davis was available. There's almost a sick satisfaction in having it backfire so perfectly.

In this particular situation I dont mind not using Wade. For one, if Wade is in and Jansen bats with 2 out, nobody on they let him bat and you just used Wade to extend the game for more Jansen nightmares and then youre right back to Lacky or Rondon or other options we dont trust.

He tried to sneak Duensing through 7-8-9 which made sense with Puig's lefty struggles. Once Puig walks it becomes hard to defend not bringing Wade in immediately though. Really disappointing to hear him use the phrase "saving him for the save situation" and I hope he abandons that mindset moving forward.

nothing will top chapman pitching in game 6 and then seeing the obvious result of it in game 7. still can't believe how lucky we got.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Wade Davis in the offseason. If the Cubs don't pursue resigning him, I think it is an indication that they have questions about his health and/or durability.

the Darling curse: Theo-era Cubs now 7-9 in playoff games on TBS, compared to 11-6 on Fox networks

How the hell do you know all this

well, we won the world series in the non tbs year, so it's not hard to guess

Ok fine but he's kind of like an encyclopedia man

I mean fine but that's not really a good "excuse." for one, josh fields isn't winning the cy young and neither is brandon morrow. also sale and kluber and severino and Hendricks and Lester and greinke and ray and berrios have all had mediocre to horrendous outings. I mean you're gonna face good pitching. the fact that the cubs are sucking against good pitching doesn't mean they're not sucking.

those totals were against, by definition, league averagish offenses (i know it doesn't quite work out that way) not a good one like the cubs and they haven't pitched all, or even close to most, of the innings so far this postseason.

the cubs bats are seriously under performing where you'd expect them to be.

That was bad, but tonight was just without any possible defense by anyone with half a brain. Also we won both games so that kept me from getting this angry.

weird. i mean obviously i get it if you're literally referring to the fact that we won those games, but that was a much more egregious decision by maddon, IMO.

And the absolute miracle that was Chapman not giving up a dong in his 2nd inning in game 7.
