Anyone else perturbed by the ESPN rankings calling Kyle the 19th best SP in the playoffs? I think that is ludicrous.

Rick Porcello had a 4.65 ERA this year, backed up by a 4.60 FIP, but he stole a Cy Young last year, so throw him at 16th.

Masahiro Tanaka had a 4.74 ERA (4.34 FIP), and just watched Luis Severino start their one game, must win playoff, but he's their best pitcher at 14th.

Jake is 6th, which....is bold.

I want more Matt Vasgersian.

"IT'S IN THE BASKET!"

Was he the one who did "Santa Maria" on the Raji Davis HR in game 7?

As for TBS that was horrible last night, I could barely read what inning it was and the number of outs. And I have very good eyesight and a 70 Inch TV

Most of the play by play guys are fine(Anderson was a bit annoying but nothing obnoxious), the real issue is the color guys saying absolute nonsense. My main consolation if they don't make the World Series again is that I won't have to listen to Smoltz one minute more than I need to. It probably wouldn't work, but I wonder if you had a national PBP guy in a 3 man booth with the regular color guys from each team. Like imagine a Cubs/Mets NLCS with Buck, JD, and Keith Hernandez. 3 man booths are generally intolerable, but that's one way I could imagine it working.

Yep. When I think of national guys I hate, they are almost all color guys. I don't even hate Joe Buck all that much anymore.

Edit - Also, I wouldn't hate the 3 person booth the way you described, either, even though anyone with MLB.tv knows there are tons of terrible local color commentators out there.

Actually the only national color commentator I can think of that I don't hate is Jessica Mendoza. There's probably some random ex-players that do it just for the playoffs who aren't immediately coming to mind, too.

TBS really sucks. They can't do anything right. I agree that national broadcasts make the stage feel bigger and that it is just part of the process. But TBS needs to get their horsefeathers together. They forget simple things, like showing check swings and who is up in the bullpen. Their K-Zone is, I'm pretty sure, a guy pointing to where he thinks a pitch went. The presentation is really horrible.

I don't know, "Wrecked" is enjoyable.

Maybe I just hear less of some of these people than you guys do, but I don't hate any national color commentator, not since Tim McCarver stopped.

Smoltz is abysmal. Just fat juicy meatballery.

Let's be real: they all suck.

Mendoza is the among the best of them but also has many of the same lumps -- acting like no one in the viewing audience knows who the hell these players are, using the same 2-3 words excessively due to a limited vocabulary, taking a long time to explain a simple process in order to fill airtime.

There is justifiable reason for this for national broadcasts. Especially come playoff time.

I know maybe 6 guys on arizona and colorado combined, and maybe 1 Twin.

I'm also blissfully unaware of a good half of the Yankees squad despite being surrounded by Yankees fans.

The majority of viewers don't know who the hell these players are.

Yes, but it doesn't make the broadcast enjoyable for a big baseball fan, which is what we all are.

i know most remotely good players in mlb, but that might be because i play fantasy

I played fantasy for a few years, and obsessed over prospects across the league for a couple decades, hoping in vain that some of them would wind up as Cubs. That helped me transition from a kid that literally knew every player in the game to an adult that knew most worth knowing. But the Cubs are loaded with good young talent and they are great now and I no longer play fantasy baseball, so I don't give a damn about the rest of the league.
