Almora insurance and likely platoon partner. No reason to doubt what the FO says. This is the guy we're bringing in to help transition Almora into a fulltime guy in 2018. Glad we kept him to a one year deal.

OH AND THANK YOU DEX. YOU ARE THE MAN. WISH YOU THE BEST.

It'd be great if you stay away from the Cards though. You deserve better and I want you to find an actual contender to p!ay for.

It's so early in the offseason that there's obviously potential for more moves and I'll give the FO the benefit of the doubt. But going into the year with Jay/Almora as our CF seems to be kinda risky and half-assing it.

It could also mean that we intend on going with Javy as primary 2B, Zobrist in RF, Heyward in CF, Schwarbs in LF with Almora and Soler as bench.

Yeah, I'm with you. At least I hope this is what happens. But we're so flexible that Maddon will surely find ways to use all these guys semi-regularly.

I think I may have Jay's autograph from his A-ball year but can't remember if he was on the Spikes or went directly to Full Season A

Great pickup. Jay was having a really good year last year before he suffered a broken arm after getting hit by a pitch. Love the fact that it's a one year deal - mildly surprised that he took just a one year deal, but obviously he's heavily incentivized to have a big year in what will likely be his last opportunity to pick up a big contract. I like guys that bet on themselves.

Jay is by all accounts a great clubhouse guy to top it off. Sad to see Fowler go, but this is a solid addition.

Does anyone have the GIF of the HR where Jay jumped at the wall in CF for a ball that went at least 10 feet beyond the wall? I always liked that one.

I'm shocked at the amount of people that think $8M is a significant amount of money in 2016

Well when you compare it to the affordable sum of 3 years, 15 million for Ryan Sweeney...

Wasn't a member then but I remember that post and thinking "wtf?? Is there some other Ryan Sweeney?"

If that's the outfield, then that most likely means no more Dex, Cogs, or Szczur, as we'd be sitting at six OFers if Zo plays more outfield than in. Unless I'm forgetting someone, and if you consider Javy a starter, that leaves only La Stella as a backup infielder. We're also note going to have three guys rotating through catcher.... So big fat bullpen early in the year, with Jeimer on the roster if he has a good spring?

Right now, I'm expecting to see a Soler trade for pitching and Cogs brought back to back fill him on the bench.

My guess is we go 13/13.

C Contreras Montero

1B Rizzo

2B Baez Seal Boy

SS Russell

3B Bryant

LF Schwarber Szczur

CF Jay Almora

RF Heyward Zobrist

If we don't trade Soler, then I guess there's a solid chance Almora starts in Iowa. Zobrist will get plenty of 2B starts. Probably 60-80 games there, but I figure Javy will edge him out in starts.

I really think Soler and Candelario get moved though. And we'll obviously have a few NRI types that may be the 13th position guy, if we have an injury or two early on.....

What are the injuries he's had over the last two years that have caused him to miss about half the games each season?

He broke his forearm this season. 2015 it was wrist tendonitis.

They've got about $30 mil to play with, give or take, after arbitration if they want to match last year's opening day salary total. I just didn't expect 25% of it to go to a platoon outfielder for Almora.
