he's kind of right though

What organization currently has 4 "can't miss" prospects based on JR's definition of one?

Not sure it was a definition, as much as a valid point followed by hyperbole.

unless there's more to the quote, it didn't sound like he was asking for 4. he was just saying 1 in 4 lives up to the hype... i think

If garbage Kolten Wong and prospects is what it takes to get a 2 person combo of Davis/Cain/Dyson, that can easily be matched and or beaten by us. Getting Cain AND Davis is one stop shopping. And if it costs us less than Soler, even better.

I haven't looked at the exact numbers but I think the Rockies are paying Gerrardo Parra, Ian Desmond and Mike Dunn more than our entire starting IF and OF if you take Heyward out.

I think the Orioles screwed the pooch on this offseason by acting too slowly (had they shopped Brach or Britton hard early, they probably could've netted a nice haul that could've allowed them to stay away from Trumbo and or fill other needs ... I had entertained the idea of some sort of Soler/Brach swap in mind earlier in the offseason as a possibility). Had they shopped Brach hard at all this winter ... I mean, they are coming in now after teams have started settling their setup guys (Marlins come to mind). Just seems too late.

Still, with Rosenthal, who is still fairly well connected in that area, I think, reporting that the Orioles are willing to swap Brach, it does cross my mind what it might take. Granted, after the Uehara signing, doesn't seem like we'd do anything big in that regards, and we already have a loose parameter of what the Orioles want at least (Braves and Mallex Smith was rumored). Brach's benefited from Showalter's mostly exemplary bullpen management, but he's still a good late inning arm that, off the top, is cost-controlled and could act as a bridge to the next closer (if it's say Carl Edwards Jr.) or be the next closer for a year after Wade Davis.

Unlikely, but I am mildly curious. Obviously, I am not suggesting trading too much or anything of the sort, but building a deep pen may be our answer to some of the rotation concerns, and if it doesn't take any key piece, it could be a thought. On paper, we don't really fit with their needs, though.

I'm sure the Twins are weak with gratitude. The 40 HR 2B for a notch above mediocre arm prospect, huzzah.

Do you literally spit at every pitching prospect that doesn't throw 95 or is it more of a metaphorical thing?

Clay Buchholz to the Phillies for a 24yo class A+ 2B, Josh Tobias.

Pure salary dump. I like it for the Phillies. Reminds me of us in 2012. If Buchholz has a good first half, he gets dealt for prospects. If he sucks, they're on the hook for just one year.

Jonny Gomes plans to play in 2017.

"I've got some more pull homers in the tank,'' Gomes told Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com. Good to know. Gomes, 36, last appeared in the majors in 2015 while batting .213/.313/.347 with seven homers and 26 RBI in 262 plate appearances between the Braves and Royals. He signed a contract with the Rakuten Golden Eagles of Japan's Pacific League last February, but he appeared in just 18 games before leaving "by mutual consent." Assuming the interest is there, he'll have to settle for a minor league deal.

I have a feeling he ends up here on a minor league deal.
