The inconsistent zone screwed with everyone tonight, but I think it hurts a patient team like the Cubs even more. Guys like Bryant know the zone so horsefeathers well, and it was just all over the place tonight.

 

Not checking at 1B for the check swing strike on Javy was inexcusable. There is absolutely no reason to make that call ever...especially in a World Series game.

I agree that it was probably a swing. I just hate when the home plate umpires don't defer to the guy who has a better view and who doesn't also have to determine whether the pitch was a ball or strike regardless of swing.

Hopefully this game puts to bed the assumption that because the wind is blowing out there is going to be a ton of runs scored. Good pitchers making their pitchers can still keep the score low. Yes the margin for error is much smaller but there have been like 3-4 games this year with heavy winds blowing out that were very low scoring.
