No one but Billy Hamilton is scoring on that play. Dumb argument.

So you're arguing that him jogging and then stopping down the 1b line is okay and would have made no difference had he been running as hard as he was from 1st-3rd?

Sound logic. Totally makes sense.

Why would anyone bust ass out of the box assuming that could be an inside the park homerun? Off the bat it looked like a routine foul ball. Which player on the roster do you believe would have turned that into a homerun?

Any non Schwarber, non catcher would have had a shot if they were, you know, running like you are supposed to do.

Why wouldn't you run?

There are no routine foul balls with that wind.

I get that most major leaguers don't bust it out if the box. Doesn't make it right. Soler made it to third without much of a play. He could've made it close at home.

Yeah, we're not benching Javy. Stop it

If so, it wouldn't be a benching so much as an odd man out. I still firmly believe that the best way to nest these guys is with defense. Put Almora in LF, Heyward in RF. Obviously, this means Russell at SS. Javy may be a better all around 2B than Zobrist, but Zobrist has been our one consistent bat this series.

I doubt it will go down like this, but if so, it would be nice to have the bats of Schwarber, Javy, and Soler late in the game.

Speaking of the game, whomever's up, drag your ass out of bed, wipe away the bourbon laced tears and, and get to work.

Yes, definitely let's look to prioritize defense over offense after having been shut out two of the first three games of the series. Makes sense.

yeah i was kinda scratching my head at that one too

Don't understand why Maddon tried to get 2 innings out of Edwards; I was tweeting after the 6th wondering if he would go with Strop or Monty in the 7th so imagine my surprise when Edwards was back out there. He only went 2 innings one time all year and that was back on July 31; since then his longest stint I believe was 1.1 so that was a puzzling move for sure.

soler even at full speed is absolutely not scoring on that, come on. I think heyward catches that ball in RF, but I dont think it's fair to look at one play in a game where we got shutout and the indians left like 15 guys on base and go "yeah we need more defense"

It landed a couple feet in front of slow ass Soler. You don't think someone who doesn't suck has a play on it?

Not to mention if the Cubs version of a combine hero bothered to run hard out of the box he probably scores on that misplayed triple

You honestly think that would've been an inside the park HR? I mean... huh?

Can't help but LOL at the concept of someone bitching about a guy "only" getting a triple on a bloop to RF.

Had he been running down to first instead of jogging, then stopping? Yeah, there would have been a chance.

Sorry, I forgot I'm not allowed to question one of Theo's guys.

on of "theo's guys"? ahhaha, come the horsefeathers on

Its a really weird feeling but I was much more nervous/uptight with the Giants and Dodger series....now that we actually made the World Series I am just kinda sitting back and taking it all in...I mean during Javy's AB I was pacing and eventually throwing things but we got rid of a lot of fan baggage this post season and it feels ok to not ever have to hear about a curse or goat again

You don't think run prevention when nearly your entire lineup save one guy isn't hitting becomes a priority?

Jorge Soler isn't the answer to our offensive struggles. The guys who normally hit well need to stop trying to be heros and we'll be fine but I'd rather roll with the team that got you through the LDS/LCS than decide that the low probability that Jorge Soler stops being who he is helps you more than Jason Heyward being who he's been all year.

replacing jason heyward w/jorge soler, at worst, cost us one run. We'd have gone like 145-17 if that happened in the regular season. this loss is on the offense, that's it. trying to argue otherwise is extremely confusing

Soler or Heyward or wile e horsefeathering coyote with a rocket strapped to his ass wasn't getting to that hit. Georgie made a good play to get the out at 3rd

Soler or Heyward or cocained Pete Rose was going to pause out of the box on the triple. the ball was headed into the seats and the wind is what held it up and kept it in play. nobody short of prime secretariat is scoring on that, and even then he probably completely skips 2nd base and gets called out on appeal

Posted

yeah i can't really blame Soler for not getting an inside the park home run on what looked like a foul ball off the bat. He doesn't have the best wheels anyway and that would have been an absurd play, though I was rooting for it

We just didn't get enough balls to drop today. We can get mad about this or that play but we got what, 2 hits off Tomlin? It's kind of unacceptable. And I'm surprised Montero absolutely cranking a line drive right at a dude isn't getting more attention. That would have been the lead right there.

I'll concede on Soler scoring, but saying with certainty that Heyward doesn't get to a ball that dropped a few feet in front of Soler I just don't buy. Heyward is not only faster and has a better jump off the ball, but he probably would have been better positioned to start with

Sorry, I just can't concede that Soler's "offense" is worth sitting an excellent defender, and really can't comprehend why him jogging then stopping is being defended. It wasn't just "hesitation". He was jogging at half speed and then stopped. Had he been running, not even sprinting, he'd have been halfway to 2b when the ball dropped.

Crap like that matters in the playoffs, it's not June with 100 more games to smooth out the irregularities.

538 estimates that took the Cubs from 62% to 37% to win the series.

lol what is the point of these stupid percentages. "cubs are 60% to win! oh they lost well now they're 40%! Oops they won again, back to 60% Crap they lost, uhhhh 37%!"

Math, man. How does it even work?!

i went to bed right after the game night because i was so annoyed, hoping to get a good night sleep and move on.

i slept great for like 9.5 hours, but woke up more annoyed than last night.

score early tonight and shove it down their throats. roll through tomorrow. win tuesday.

Are you going to bench Fowler, Bryant, Rizzo, or Russell?

Because if you're going to react to Javy's WS # you should apply that overreaction to the other guys whose numbers are identical to his.

Well, those guys are actually a lot better hitters than Javy

They're performing as bad as he is right now and in a couple cases much worse over the past month.

Addison Russell has been pretty bad since late August

Why does Javy get the short leash on 3 games of struggles?
