Tues and Wednesday will be awesome...but this weekend is going to be insanity in Chicago. I won't be there, but I expect stories from everyone that is.

there's not a [expletive] thing on this earth short of a hospital that would keep me from watching a cubs potential world series clinching game

Yeah, my friend was at a wedding in Puerto Rico and streamed the clincher during a wedding reception from a phone and eventually laptop.

Also, a W flag was eventually brought out at the reception because the Cubs are insanely popular in Puerto Rico because JAVY motherfucking BAEZ.

There have been a lot of things planned for this week at work, and pushes for involvement have been coming out since early September. Every half-hearted commitment I gave came with the disclaimer that I could be clearing my schedule this week and leaving town. I've always kept a vacation day balance for the end of October, just in case. Deep down, I had always just assumed I would retire before I ever needed to use it.

The last team to start three different catchers in a World Series was the 1998 Padres, who started Carlos Hernandez, Greg Myers and Jim Leyritz in a four-game loss to the Yankees.

A priest, a rabbi, and a mullah walk into a bar. They all grab a seat, and they watch the Cubs play in the WORLD horsefeathering SERIES.

With the lack of capacity at bars, and the price of tickets requiring us to empty our life savings, has there been any word around the city about any larger-scale public viewings, like putting up a projector screen at Grant Park? That could be what it takes to sell the wife on pulling our kid out of school and bringing the whole family up.

This article begs the question

A) you are a huge lifelong Cubs fan, and are at the NL clincher

B) your good friend is on the AL Champion

Would you root for the Indians as he claims his friends are going to be?

I don't think I would.

They are obviously trying to stay in his good graces to score tickets.

Maddon on the radio today said it'll for sure be Hendricks game 3 and Lackey game 4, but they're still evaluating Arrieta/Lester games 1 and 2.

I don't like "saving" Lester for the theoretically easier matchup. Lester's pitch counts were low early in the playoffs and 108 last game wasn't too much, and he's on normal rest.

I think the only reason they'd go with Arrieta first would be if they feel like it'd be better to have him pitch sooner and give Lester an extra day. Arrieta on 6 days rest and Lester on 5 days rest, or Lester on normal rest and Arrieta on 7 days rest. I don't think it'd be about who Cleveland's pitcher is.

I can't imagine any way Lester doesn't take the ball tomorrow night. I heard the Mike & Mike interview and Joe said he doesn't like to announce these things without talking to the players first - I think he just wants to tell Jake he's going in game two rather than having him find out through the media.

This is incredible. A World Series thread...

You mean you fools didn't clear out your schedules 4 months ago for this week?

I'm going to admit this b/c we're among friends. But I checked the WS schedule when making my travel plans. But I needed to attend this conference and get down to LA by Wed. My only option to not fly during the game was to fly super late or super early. I actually booked my flights thinking "I'm not going to not book them during the WS" just b/c I didn't want to jinx it. Is that meatballish and stupid? Of course. But it worked, so you're welcome.

That said, I can watch most of Games 1 and 2 from an airport bar and I made absolutely sure that I wouldn't miss any of Games 3-7.

Every year for 11 years I've requested the dates of the World Series off from work as soon as they were released. I have also booked hotel rooms in Chicago for potential games 1 and 2, 3 through 5, and 6 and 7 and always planned to pick and choose which set of games I'd be in town for. As much as I hate the All Star Game deciding anything, it's nice that I'll be there for three games instead of two and knowing in advance which block of reservations I could cancel. I can't wait for this weekend.

I just have to get through my last night in Tahoe on Tuesday night, then I can be home watching the rest of the games from the comforts of HOME. This travel has made it hard for me to enjoy this the way I really wanted. But the wife is busy recording anything and everything Cubs World Series related.

The hotel bar at Hyatt Regency in Incline Village is perfect for my situation, however. I watched all of the football games yesterday there and finally got to get my drink on in what was basically a late celebration of Saturday night's game.
