first baseman Adrian Gonzalez considered what he expects Wrigley Field to be like for Game 6 of the National League Championship Series against the Cubs.

He unwittingly issued a challenge to Cubs fans.

"The same (atmosphere) we had in Game 1 and 2," Gonzalez said. "They can't put any more people in the stands. They can only put in so many people."

"They can't cheer any louder," Gonzalez said. "It's not like it's a loud stadium to begin with. They're going to try their best, and we're going to tune them out like we always do."

If there's anything I've taken away about the Dodgers from this series, it's that Adrian Gonzalez seems like a bit of an asshat.

I saw that article and thought the same thing. No wonder Boston shipped him out. Seems like a total douche canoe.

I've never understood why they NEVER replay a gonz's double play butchery. Like ever.

i would guess only even 3/4ths of this site's audience even knows what you are talking about, which goes to show how messed up sports media is.

On this site? Pretty sure most people here remember the agon error. We're easily the least terrible faction of Cubs fans on the internet. Go to another site, probably the majority of them don't know anybody named AGon ever played for us.

Read this or not, your call, but Brisbee is probably the best of the folks that currently write about baseball. He goes through all of the villains, minor and major, before laying blame for '03 Game 6. Since he gives it away from the beginning, I'll tell you, he does not blame Bartman. Instead of the Bartman Game, he proposes renaming it thusly: GLTHOWAYDAhhhhhhh

I would have thrown an F somewhere in that alphabet soup acronym, but I concur. And I hope the Cubs don't choke again with two chances, at Wrigley, to advance.

I think at least 1/4th of this site's audience (not participants) are not Cub fans.

Right?! As soon as some noob spouts off about Bartman like they know some history, I quickly school them about Agony being the goat. You pay a guy $5.5 M and he gets handcuffed by a routine DP ball at a crucial moment?! And that bastard NEVER apologized for it, either.

Second place goes to Dusty and Rothschild, who apparently had their bums superglued to the bench while Prior imploded.

The thing about that team, is that I don't recall it having a lot of leaders. Sammy was always pretty much for Sammy, Alou showed his prima donna tendencies, and poor Kerry had to take it all on his shoulders. I mean, if Mark Grace had still been playing and a Cub, he would have called the IF in, told a crass joke, and Prior would have gotten out of the inning. And then once they all got into the dugout, Grace would have threatened Alou and Agony within an inch of their lives against behaving like such jerks again.

The front office deserves more blame than they got as well. Lack of leadership to handle the head-case players.

I know it was a different era, but bullpen should have been deeper than what it was. I remember it was basically just Dusty using Remlinger as a LOOGY, Farnsworth either being unhittable or can't throw a strike, then Borowski gets into trouble and hope he can get out of it. Some of that's the front office and some of that's Dusty's pitching management.

I rewatched it a few years ago finally and I was also struck by Dusty/Rothschild not doing anything to calm anyone down after Alou freaked out after that foul ball, or any of the other many events that they watched happen.

I just want to remind anyone that's worried that the Dodgers are 8-9 in the playoffs when Kershaw pitches, 4-9 before this year. I don't think anyone is necessarily thinking this, but just a reminder that Kershaw does not equal Cubs loss. We've got this.

I agree. I've actually been a little annoyed by how the Cubs have talked up Kershaw to this point. Anyone else notice this? Bosio even called it a David vs Goliath matchup this morning.

Some people have said that the Cubs are not a good team. I don't know if there's any truth to it. I tell ya, this entire game is rigged. Did anyone else see the game last night? Did you see it when it was a strike --- and it really should have been called a ball --- it was called a strike? And then when it was a ball, and it should have been called a strike, it was called a ball. if that can't convince you that this game is rigged, I don't know what can. I am going to hire a special prosecutor to look into the umpire's situation. Alfonso Marquez will be out of a job soon, and we will make baseball great again.

Damn unprofessional of him. You shake your head and reset.

Until Zobrist got something going (he IS a leader) the other day, I was afraid I was witnessing a SS,DD (or year, in this case) when Lackey started shouting at Contreras after that second C interference and walking the first two guys.

Luckily, unlike Dusty Baker even nowadays, Maddon seems to know when to pull a pitcher and when not to pull a pitcher, for the most part. They say that catchers make the best managers, and I think it's true. Always wondered whether Dusty having been OF as a player made him a manager who was good, but not necessarily great.

I'm one for poetic symmetry, so I'm hoping Adrian Gonzalez botches a double play ball leading to an 8 run 8th.

Which will put us ahead 18-0 instead of 10-0.

Well all of it is warranted. He's the greatest pitcher of this generation, and will finish as one of the greatest of all time. And he pitched marvelously the last time he was in Wrigley (though, was about 10 feet away from being a loser).

All of that matters more to me than whatever handful of bad playoff starts he's had. I think we can get to him, but he's the best pitcher in the postseason still.

I used to like the guy but this series and his incessant horsefeathering whining has grown very tiresome.

Eric Karros might have done something to relieve the pressure of the situation on the field, but with Randall Simon's propensity for epically-long AB, EK didn't even appear in the game until the bottom of that disastrous 8th (as a PH).

I don't think I could ever bring myself to watch that inning again. Maybe if the Cubs do win a WS.

a little surprised how much fresh seeming 2003 baggage there still is for some of you guys.

i watched and lived it. i was pulling up yankees tickets and mapquesting the drive. it was awful. but it's so far gone from my consciousness about this team.

i actually even liked the 30 for 30 on it.

Barry Rozner just said he thinks the Cubs win this tomorrow. That there's a scout he was talking to that thinks Kershaw must be tired, hence waiting till Game 6. And that the Cubs hit the ball hard against Kershaw even if they didn't get the results. Seeing him for the 2nd time in a week should be good for the Cubs.

I choose to believe Barry.

mentions of it by the national media is more annoying than anything else.

Yeah, I just mentioned it since the Fox Sports narrative of that game that they created is as BS as their cable news division.

I wouldn't say the Cubs hit the ball hard against him last game. They had a hard hit ball that ended up being an out (Baez) but otherwise Kershaw thoroughly dominated.

Don't forget Rizzo's moon shot that just went foul. It really felt like we got unlucky on balls in play that game. Granted, we didn't put a whole lot in play.

Rizzo crushed a ball, Zobrist had two really hard hit balls to LCF, one almost a HR and Russell hit one hard too
