Didnt it come out that there was no alcohol in his system? Or am I misremembering?

I think they've only said no drugs or alcohol was found on the boat. Don't think they've announced the autopsy results yet. They did say Jose was not driving tho. However that is determined. Yes it's pretty dumb and reckless to be boating at night but if no drugs or alcohol were involved idk how you even think this is close to OT.

This is all true but from the sounds of the Passan article Fernandez was begging teammates and friends to go out with him, and going out at that time of night was said to be quite dangerous due to lack of lighting and lack of other people out on the water to save them in the event of an accident. The driving part doesn't matter at all assuming whoever drove was sober. From the sounds of it he encouraged others to do something fairly reckless and they paid for it with their lives. I don't know where that puts Fernandez in terms of his judgement tbh

Fair enough. Not trying to minimize or magnify the blame on him here, just think comparing him to OT with what we know as of right now isn't fair.

If I'm reading the article right, it makes it sound like they only docked at the restaurant because the guy they picked up lived in an apartment above it.

I mean, blasting around in a speedboat at night is never a good idea, but just being out on a boat by Miami at night isn't usual at all in and of itself.

Being out on a boat and not drinking is very unusual

I have no idea if they were drinking or not; just pointing out that the article makes it sound like they didn't actually go the restaurant and just stopped to pick up their friend.

The big difference for me is that a lot of people don't know the dangers of boating. Everyone knows the dangers of drinking and driving. When you get into a car drunk and drive, you know that you are horsefeathering up. Fernandez might not have realized how dangerous being in that boat was.

Yeah I should say that I think what Tavarez did was more reckless, not to mention illegal.

Fact is a 24 year old likely isn't thinking he's going to die while doing this, especially since they had done it before. And they said he wasn't driving so even if he was drinking it's not the same as what Taveres did.

Well, I'm guessing Taveras didn't think he was going to die while doing what he did either. That's an odd defense.

I'll go out on a limb and say a guy who rescued his own mother from drowning probably has an inkling about the dangers of boating

Not to be the typical atheist jerk, but the numbers claim intrigued me and I looked it up. He's definitely had a few harder hit home runs throughout the years. It only went a bit over 370 feet, and he once registered one in the 410-420 range in Colorado.

Yea but Colorado might as well be heaven, so that doesn't count either.
