I don't know that I've ever been at a such a loss for an athlete who has passed away. It's always tragic when a ballplayer dies, but this kind of feels like a distant friend just died. I mean we follow baseball so closely and pay attention to all the players and Fernandez has been just that magnetic guy that you always watch the highlights of and you see his antics and I know most of us on here were fans of his personality and character, it's just so insane to think that he's not gonna be pitching anymore. I don't know what else to say other than just how fucked up this is. R.I.P.

This really sucks. The thing I've loved about the Cubs was their enthusiasm and having fun with the game. Fernandez had that too and it's always a joy to watch when players enjoy playing the games plus he was a good player. I'd definitely list him as one of my favorite players in the game. RIP

Really sad news. I wonder if they were wearing life vests.

Based off the description of what happen and the photo I've seen of the boat I don't think that would have mattered.

The boat flipped onto rocks. Two of the bodies were found floating in the water next to the rocks, and one was under the boat. Vests weren't the issue.

I'm really not sure how to react to this news, other than to say it really sucks. He was one of my favorites to watch.

My heart fell into my stomach seeing this. I don't think I'll be able to watch sports today. So unbelievable. Was looking forward to debating whether he'd be a Cub this off season, but there's no debate as to how talented he was or as to how much this news just sucks.

Shades of Lidle/Munson, if evidence shows he was piloting. What a snake-bitten franchise.

And if they were out fishing, the irony...

He wasn't driving. and no alcohol or drugs. They were going too fast and didn't see the jetty.

I seriously feel like I got sucker punched in the gut. Just seeing the reactions of his colleagues, watching the Eduardo Perez segment, watching clips of highlights. He played with such a great enthusiasm that was infectious.
