"Niewenfuk has 4 hits"

Things that don't shock you when you hear them during a Cubs-Brewers game.

Does he like hate the color blue or something?

This will be the Cubs 40th loss at Miller Park since 2009 (33 wins). Of all ballparks they only lost more games in St. Louis. So, my hatred of this place isn't completely irrational, like many of my other knee jerk reactions.

I'm not sure if you noticed, but the Cubs teams from 2010-2014 were quite bad.

They play a disproportionate number of games at 4 ballparks (besides Wrigley) but let's freak out about the ballpark that they've lost at the 2nd most out of those 4 parks.

horsefeathers Contreras might be losing a lot of his potential playoff playing time. I think Joe really wants the veteran in there behind the plate if he can find some signs of life with Miggy.

He's still been horsefeathering miserable behind the plate even with his little offensive uptick recently

I don't mind Hammel too much. Looking at the totality of his stints with the Cubs:

2014 First-half Hammel helped us get Addison Russell.

2015 First-half Hammel pitched really well when the offense wasn't doing much early in the year. Second-half Hammel didn't hurt us too much because the offense went insane, and Joe basically used his starts as Bullpen Games.

2016 First-half Hammel lucked his way into very good results thanks to a combination of our defense, sequencing, and plain old good luck. And we built up such a big lead that it really doesn't matter how bad Second-Half Hammel is.

I didn't care too much about him complaining about the quick yank a couple weeks ago because there's not much to care about right now. Last year, it pissed me off a lot whenever he bitched about being taken out. But whatever. His teammates seem to like him enough. And he uses Pearl Jam as walk-up music. So I'm cool with him as a person.

And he doesn't cost much and ate up some innings. The one thing that really pissed me off was when Second-Half Hammel somehow became even worse in the playoffs last year, but it didn't matter too much in the end, with two blowout series. So thanks for the innings again this year, and when the playoffs come around:

I kinda figured Maddon would just let Hammel destroy his own ERA when it was clear he had nothing last night after the way he behaved like a spoiled child when he got pulled in the 3rd inning two starts before this one.

It did kinda feel like he said "f it" take your beating though he could have just left him out there to eat innings because the pitch count was low.

I feel like this is the correct answer. With Montgomery starting today, no reason to tax the pen if you can avoid it, even with the number of guys they've got out there right now. I was amazed his PC was so low after that beating he took in the 1st.

Oh, and where is new gam thread???????????????????????

they're still playing games?

Imagine how motivated you'll feel to watch the games after they clinch the division.

I've only had one or two real outbursts of joy or anger all year because in my eyes the division has mostly been clinched all year. Lately, I haven't really made it through a whole game. Being really good is a little boring. It's weird.
