So the diving pool at the Olympics turned green. Nobody's saying for sure, but it's likely an algae bloom.

 

So you're saying that building an outdoor diving pool in the Petri dish of South America was a bad idea?

 

It's really easy to maintain an outdoor pool; they just clearly dropped the ball in having anyone properly do it.

One enterprising fan walked over and was about to scoop it up _ apparently thinking that like foul balls in baseball, he was entitled to a souvenir _ when cries of “No! No!” stopped him in his tracks.

Baseball in the Olympics sucks because it's in the summer amd it would [expletive] with real baseball if we wanted the actual good players to play. Add it to the Winter Olympics and play it indoors and I'm on board.

well it's being played in 2020 since they are coming back to Japan

 

there's plenty of actually good non-MLB players who can participate

Pretty much, a 2 vs 2 match play would be fun for a round, a 4 man scramble round, individual match play round then like 1 round of individual stroke play. Where individual can medal then standings go towards overall team medals

It's too bad they have a 2 person per country limit on the gymnastics all-around, would've been cool to see the US sweep the medals. As it stands, Raisman was better than 3rd place by 1.433, the same as the gap between 3rd and 11th. And Biles was 2.100 better than Raisman!

The quartet was part of a team that also featured future MLB standouts such as Brett Anderson, Nate Schierholtz, Kevin Jepsen, Brian Duensing, Jayson Nix...

 

That article is playing pretty loose with its definition of "MLB standout". Unless it's meaning to say that most of those guys literally just stood out on a MLB field for several years and didn't do much else.

On Tuesday Rio organizers blamed the color change on a “proliferation of algae,” before explaining on Wednesday that they’d ran out of a necessary chemical, which dropped the total alkalinity of the pool.
